I was in a favorite local gun shop today just spending some time scanning the used gun racks. I was amazed at the current hang tag prices of used guns even though I can usually get a discount. There was an S&W M&P Model 15 in 5.56mm/ .223 that was listed as NRA good condition. Upon my close inspection it was clear that the rifle appeared to be in like-new condition. I bought it really cheap. It came with a black nylon case and extra magazines. Then I noticed the previous owner left a tag on the nylon case and the writing seemed familiar. Turns out the rifle had belonged to a close friend and former owner of a nearby gun shop where I used to work part-time back in the 1970s. The previous owner had failing eyesight and was recently declared legally blind. Perhaps he never even fired the rifle. I do not intend to shoot the rifle very much because it has sentimental value to me. All the best...
Gil

You’re right Pete. Gil, you have to be about the "arsiest" (is that even a word) bugger about when it comes time to sniffing out a great deal mate.

Well done on a great deal and even more so seeing as how it belonged to an old friend. Blind or not, he might even enjoy a trip to the range and the opportunity to put a shot through his old rifle with your help.

You always get the great deals, Gil! The M&P-15 is a great rifle. It was my first AR. Its a little overgassed but it always runs great and mine shot good. Mine ran clean. One time I ran 800 rounds through it without cleaning. I ran a patch down the chrome-lined bore and it was hardly dirty. You can shoot it a lot. Enjoy!

I was working as a Range Safety Officer at the local gun club this morning and got a chance to sight in the M&P Model 15. I had some PMC 55 grain factory ammo, several different brands of 20-round magazines and the 50 yard range to myself. I agree with slimjim that the M&P 15 is a great shooter. The rifle was flawless in feeding, firing and functioning. The different magazines were splendid and ran without a hitch. Too bad I do not post pictures because someone added a few after-market accessories to the rifle such as an ambidextrous safety, a handguard with rails on all four sides and a block for a bipod. I am getting used to the adjustable stock and really like it.

This was mostly a function test of the rifle and checkout of the sights which are wonderful. It seems likely that my friend was never able to even sight the rifle in due to his failing eyesight. It is a keeper. All the best...
Gil

You are one lucky bugger Gil the way you always manage to be in the right place at the right time to score these magnificent deals mate.
