Heinz Australian tomato sauce factory would close at the end of business today.
Sadly it is another effect of globalisation that causes grieve to many worker's livelihood.

You see more and more Australian companies winding down unable to compete with overseas mass producer.
The country's cupboard is now bare, and the only "lucrative" business is the non replaceable mining resources.
Sad

Its a world economy that a company has to compete in. Its sink or swim.

What they don't understand is that, before you know it, these foreign people also come over to shoot your goats and rabbits or make your daughters...

such things happens when you put the government on the steering wheel. You get extra rules and taxes, they even sell your knowledge and companies. And does these increased expenses help someone? Is a Mercedes or a Volvo better produced in Portugal?

Now think about your tomato sauce: why do you need Heinz? Only because of marketing and advertising? Stupid! But I have to admit we can also eat cangoroo-steak (and pay a lot for it) while you transform that same meat into dogfood...

Aloy, we don't need Heinz, tomato sauces tastes about the same to me.
It is the fact that the country economy is being traded up that worries me.

it seems that the trends to move out is getting momentum.

OK first a question. Are you talking about tomato sauce, or ketchup?

Second it is too bad they closed the Aussie plant, but at least they moved it to NZ and not to China. God only knows what would wind up in the sauce if it were produced in China.

Heinz is a company name that you will not see in the Jones larder, and there are many other nationally recognized company names you will not find either.

Because it is my belief that we must support companies that support our beliefs. If the company does not support my country, morals, ethics, politics, then I will not buy. In some cases such as both tomato sauce and ketchup we can our own.

If I were an Aussie anything Heinz would not see the inside of my house, they would hear about it and every other Aussie I talked to would hear about it. But that's just me, oh and my two grown daughters with their own families do the same.

Bottom line most people have forgotten is they need us, we do not need them.

On the topic of mutton. What is the going rate for mutton and ground lamb in NZ? Ground lamb is over $15.00/lb (454g)

$8.50 for 1/2lb of beef mince. a leg of lamb is about $40-50 which is plurry stupid. cant remember the last time we bought a mutton roast $30-40 for a small 1/2 leg is just too much!
