As of late our fall weather has been absolutely beautifull. Today was no exception. My buddy Russ and I got out to one of our favorite dogtowns. Lots of dogs out today. Just perfect shooting conditions. Clear, cool, and calm this morning. Russ still getting used to his new RRA .223 and me with my 1885 winchester in .223. For a couple of old farm boys, we did pretty good today. Russ had several kills over 450 yards and longest lasered at 484 yards. My longest was also 484 yards. Basically we agreed to a tie for longest. No shooting benches here. Bushwacking cross-country is what we enjoy the most. Very Happy

That one looks like ya stepped on it. I miss country like that. You can see forever and never get lost. Too many tree farms around here. Yeah that looks like fun alright, curious what your scope is and how do you compensate for the distance?

Suz

Hey Suz and Elvis, to answer your questions. The RRA is topped with a
3-12 Nikon M223 with Nikoplex system. The known distances are dialed in with a turn of the turrets. The Nikon Nikoplex system works very well. This rifle is dialed in using 55 grn. Nosler BT's with Varget powder.
My 1885 winchester is topped with a 4-16 Weaver with the 223 Ballistic Reticule. The loads I shoot are 55 grn. Hornady Vmax with varget powder.
Both rifles and sighting systems are very accurate and are a whole lot of fun to shoot. Being that both rifles are fairly lightweight, the winchester being quite abit lighter, carrying them on our walk in Pdog shoots is no problem. The rangefinder I use is a Bushnel Elite 1500. My buddies Leupold 1000 won't hardly range a Pdog past 425 yards. Very Happy

Looks like you had a great time, Moose. Ain't ND a great place to hunt!

Ya beat me with your 484 yd shot. My best, so far, with the .204 is 450.

Those 1885 High Walls are great guns to shoot. but mine's in .45/70 and a bit much for pdogs and I'm no Quigley. Just use it for silhouette shooting.

You boys going out for coyotes?

We won't start coyote hunting till after pheasant season closes in January. The labs get very unruly if they have to miss any bird hunting. Very Happy

Damn that looks awesome- I'd love to get in on some of that. Nice poke too off the pods and no bench- it's about the trigger man then.

We do get alot of shooting in. Alot of trigger time really goes along way to improve accuracy. The way we hunt and shoot, bipods get used alot. Very Happy
