Very Happy Coyote season opened Sept. 10. Scope rings arrived yesterday and scope is now mounted, bore-sighted and only needs zeroing and I am ready. Moose season is open in many locations and bow season for moose has been open for a week in my area Going to try hunting over kill sites as soon as I can get away from the rat race. Here is my rifle:

Good looking set-up, MacD! Illuminated reticle- good. If the season is only open for a week, you need to exit the rat race now! Best Wishes.

Howdy MacD! Nice camo job. Just curious what part of Canada you're in. Some perspective on your hunt areas. Not that I know anything about Canada but I can always day-dream about mooses hopping and coyotes dancing while you're skipping over the stumps. Good luck on the hunt!

Suz

Newfoundland - Suzanne. Lot of moose but caribou are on their down cycle. Coyotes are a recent addition and they get big. 65lb one shot last fall by a hunter after ducks! Big black bears and lots of them. Snowshoe hares, grouse and ptarmigan. Thanks for the good wishes. Our season goes to July next year for coyote and to January for moose. I have a moose license that I hope to fill in November.

Elvis: .223. 1-9 twist. It came with a 4-12 camo covered scope that I moved to my 308. So far I have worked up loads for two bullets: 60 grain Hornady hollow points and 50 grain Barnes varmint grenades. I am reworking these loads around Reloder 10X as the Varget loads were really compressed especially for the Barnes VG's.

my favourite load is AR2206 24.5GRNS behind a 50-55grn projectile. 52grn hp speers are flavour of the month but the 50 grn hp speers took my last pig {100lb) with a head shot at the barrel stretching range of 30ish yrds.
my rifle is a zastava mini mauser and it has a 3x9x50 leupold on top. Its crying in the cupboard at the moment Sad cause the ol girl (.270) is out and coming for a walk today. Very Happy Very Happy

I bought the Barnes 50GRN VG's on the advice of the guy who will buy any coyote pelts I send his way. He says they leave only a small entrance hole and no exit. The loads I am working on now are: Reloder 10X (Think this is pretty close if not the same as AR2206 as it is actually made for Alliant by ADI.) starting at 19.2 up to 21.2. The Barnes' site shows the load max at 22.2. My prior load was 26.5 grains of Varget (AR2208) and so compressed I actually heard the powder scrunch when I seated the bullet. It chrono'd at 3242 and gave me an average group of 1.19 inches and a spread of 1.5 inches @100 yards. The cratered primers gave me some shivers. No one ever said I was handsome but no need to make it worse eh lol
