got my ishy in today, the gunshop said they got it in saturday and i had only ordered it wed so aim jumped right on it and got it out.

i paid the 10 dollar hand pick fee and asked for matching numbers and good wood if possible. i was told all of them had some wood repairs and mine has several but done well. the wood is in great color being a super dark mahogany. aim also told me they only matched recievers and bolts for numbers. mine has ALL matching numbers on the bolt, reciever, barrel, back sight, front sight, front sight cover, trigger guard, and a numbered matching clip ohhh myyyyy. every piece of metal has a matching number except the buttplate which isnt numbered. the wood has 2 small dinges otherwise perfect.

the bore is in shiny new looking condition {chrome}

i honestly expected a 2A1 with the 800 yard sight but instead i got a 1965 2A with the 2000 yard sight.

that danged ishy paint, all the metal including the clip has been painted with lots of flakes missing. as i cleaned the cosmoline off the metal the paint started coming off in big patches. instead of repainting it im considering having it professionally parkerized.

for under 200 dollars hand picked it is a excellent deal and im just tickled.

out of the box after a quick cosmo cleaning and safety check it shoots 2 inch groups at 100 yards with open sights with my old eyes in my bifocals.

im looking for a nodrill/tap scopemount for it and expect 1 inch groups.

it has a perfect chrome lined bore. except for the awefull black paint its in excellent shape{ the stock repairs are professional and hard to notice}

Spacedone,

Its probably the same like all other Enfields on the way they install so you can use one of these:

secure.armorholdings.c.../smle.html

1" groups would be good for a Military-type Issue rifle IMO sounds like you got a good rifle. Smile

Spacedone:

I got one of those from Aim a couple of months ago. After I got all of that nasty black paint off of it, I found a nice parked barrel and receiver. I cold blued everything else since there wasn't any finish under the paint. I am very happy with how it turned out and, best of all, it shoots great. Just make sure that you only shoot 7.62 NATO out of it and not commercial .308 since it has a higher pressure. Mine was also a 2A and not a 2A1 with all matching numbers.

ishy 308s and commercial ammo.

i admit im new to reloading {only for the last year for brass} but by looking at my Lee second edition reloading manual the only commercial load i need to worry about is one loading..

run of the mill commercial ammo should be well within pressure tolerances of a ishy.

i was given 1000 once fired 308 brasses and i use camp perry powder {accurate 2520}so by my book i can load any grain bullet to a existing powder charge from the book and be safe with my highest pressure being 520000 cup which is a touch high but well within safty tolerence, and thats at a max loading. ive found the max loading as a rule to be the worst loading for any gun. plus milsurp ammo is really cheap right now.

Not trying to be confrontational at all but as I understand it the 7.62 NATO has a maximum pressure of 50,000 PSI and the .308 (SAAMI) has a maximum pressure of 62,000 PSI or 52,000 CPU. The NATO high pressure test round is rated for 67,500 PSI so any military firearm should be capable of firing commercial .308 ammunition. I have followed numerous discussions on this topic on a variety of other forums and have seen numerous warnings about shooting the higher pressure rounds through an ishy. Aim even states on their website to only use the NATO rounds. If you are reloading, that shouldn't be a problem because all you need to do is load for the 7.62X51 caliber. Here are a the actual military recipes.

www.inetres.com/gp/mil..._ammo.html

There are other reloading manuals that list other recipes for the 7.62 as well. You are probably correct that your rifle would handle commercial ammo but I prefer to stay on the safe side. Whatever you decide to do, you will have a ton of fun shooting the ishy.

Interesting article on the 308 round, I had no idea the Army had so many different 308's(7.62 NATO).
Is it safe to say from your post, that a civilian 308 can with stand more pressure than a mil. 7.62 NATO (308) ???
