jdbfair,

Welcome to the forums. Howdy

Perhaps looking for a model of a rifle that is in left handed used to get the action from it might be cheaper then buying the action itself ?? Confused

Dimitri

Welcome, drag up a stump.

The last 700 LH short action I found was at the Tulsa show, just one gun in 4 shows, the largest show in the world. The price was $1,800 in a custom rifle. Were I not wanting to spend a lifetime looking, I would just order/ buy a new LH Winchester or Remington gun and build what I wanted.

This is a list of the 700s that are made in LH, as a special order:

Welcome to the HuntingNut jdbfair...worst kept secret on the net.

I tend to agree with Dimitri. Have a look around for a "Cacky Handed" firearm in gunshops, classifieds or anywhere else they might be advertised.

As a general rule actions don't cope a hiding.....(yeah, ok guys...I know it can happen, but then they are usually trashed big time)....so when you find one go over it with a "fine toothed comb", take measurements or anything else you need to confirm its suitability before purchasing. If possible have it checked out by an independent gunsmith. Once you have the action then the fun part begins....building your dream rifle.

Having said that, there is merit to buying a new rifle as well. You will always have the new parts to return it original if you aren't happy with your "build".

Good luck mate.

Cheers, Vince

I do not if any of you have heard of H-S Precision rifles they are not real cheap but I know that anyone that has shot one has told me they would not shoot another rifle. You can custom design it on line and they will give you a price.
They guarantee 1/2" at 100 yards in 30 calibre or less.
They will make in left or right hand models.

H-S Precision rifles are built using M700 "style" (their own production I believe) actions.

They are expensive, but their take down model looks interesting, would make going on a trip in a airport easier, doesn't look like a long gun case so you wouldn't get questioned by anyone but the guy at the secure check in. Smile
