Went skeet shooting with the family this past weekend, it was loads of fun. However the forend support broke on my now 40 year old Remington 1100 Shotgun.

Sadly, as far as I've been able to determine these are now discontinued from Remington. I've searched high and low and no-one stocks it anymore. I found 2 up for auction right now but they sell for stupid prices for what used to be a $9 part. I'm still going to give it a serious try to win one or both if possible.

This is the item:

www.brownells.com/shot...10922.aspx

If anyone runs across one, hollar! Maybe a few exist in the lands down under Smile

I'll probably pick up a couple packages of O-rings and a couple extractors if Remington isn't going to make parts anymore (which is weird, as far as I can tell Remington still makes 1100's).

Dallan , may be possible to weld or solder and re-temper , just a thought.

With what's coming down the road , we all may-be doing this in the future.......

Yes, its possible to repair the existing one. The one "wing" broke off which allowed it to get cockeyed and the action bent it. So it needs to be straightened, and a new side rebuilt.

But its possible to straighten it, weld on a new wing etc. So its an option I'm considering as a last resort.

This might be the final straw holding me back from buying a small shop TIG welder for precision work.

Well... good news / bad news.

Bad news, the one I found on Ebay crossed the $100 line and I gave up chasing it. $100 for what used to be a $9 part. I dont mind some price gouging but thats ridiculous.

Had better luck on the second one on GunBroker. I was able to win that one for just over $60. So I can at least get the gun back to functional form.

I got 41 years of use out of the original part, I only need 20-30 out of this new one to last me the rest of my life. I'm going to measure it with calipers and record all the dimensions should I ever have to build one from scratch... or more likely try to repair my broken and bent support and get it back to factory dimensions.

Maybe Palmetto will let their new acquisition start making some of these commonly used parts.

Anywho, disaster averted!

Good job mate, albeit an expensive one. I’d try to repair the old one, and make one from scratch as a spare time project, just for the sake of the exercise.

good to hear you will be back in action again....at end of day your gun will still be the same so no major difference to get used to.

3D printing? I have no idea if you could get the necessary strength out of that though.

There are materials that are strong enough but the finish won't be something to show off. I would think that a wooden dowel, a soft hammer and a torch judiciously applied would stand a good chance of a decent repair or rebuild. There is also the possibility of building one from available tubing. I built a 20 round tubular magazine for my old Winchester pump. You have enough moxie to do it DallanC.

Oh... you should study up on it, 3D printing is amazing now. You can print in just about any type of material, from biological cells through plastics, and most types of metals. Prints are BEAUTIFUL and rival machined pieces. Check this aluminum manifold Banks engineering made up for their diesels.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7z1_d7S8bA

One of the coolest uses I've seen for 3D printers is restoring old WWII aircraft engines. They are able to take say, a wrecked crank that had a spun bearing, and print material back onto the original piece, bringing it back to original tolerances. No more boring out a piston cylinder, you simply "print" material thats worn away back onto the walls.

Seriously, its amazing technology.

I put a call into a gun shop here in Ontario that has been really good to me to see if he has any in stock. I'll get back to you if he has one.

Dallan, I've got a friend here who is really in to 3D printing. I was going to see of he could print some clips for a Berthier rifle. Those things are EXPENSIVE!

Another project I've discussed with him is miniatures of historic monuments.

DallanC,

Tell me where this part lives in an 1100. I may have a lead on one. Is it in the forend? Is it for a 12 gauge? Let me know. All the best...

Gil

Correct, #48. I put a link to it on Brownells website in my first post.
