Here is the note I sent my Fed and state representatives today:
"I believe that a person’s stance on the Second Amendment and the citizens’ right to be armed for their own defense is a powerful “litmus test”. Very simply, I trust my friends and neighbors to be armed. As a student of history I see that someone who wants to disarm the law abiding people cannot be trusted. I recognize that there are people in society that should not be allowed to have weapons and the solution to that is to remove them from the streets. A more complete background check might help but only if the government acts to punish those caught trying to get firearms illegally, which the current administration admits it isn’t doing. There is no fool proof solution to crime but trying to disarm the law abiding citizens is 100% the wrong thing to do."
Remember, the squeaky wheel gets the grease so start squeaking!

So far I have only gotten two replies to all my letters. One was a polite thankyou from Patty Murray who has consistantly been of the other side and the other was from Cathy Rodgers who said:

Dear Rev. Stephens:
Thank you for contacting me regarding the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School, in Newtown, Connecticut. It is an honor to represent the people of Eastern Washington and I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts with me.
I am deeply saddened by the tragic shooting in Newtown and my thoughts and prayers go out to the children and educators who lost their lives, along with their families and friends. It is important in the aftermath of this senseless violence that our nation come together to ensure that an act like this never occurs again. However, I do not believe that new legislation limiting our Second Amendment freedoms is the solution or will prevent further heinous acts. While we must be increasingly vigilant in enforcing existing laws to ensure that guns don't fall into the hands of criminals, we also must evaluate our nation's mental health system to ensure those who have mental illness get the help they need. Be assured I will work with my colleagues to determine solutions that will prevent future tragedy in ways consistent with the freedoms afforded by the Constitution.
Thank you again for contacting me on this important issue. As your Representative in Congress, I am committed to putting the best interests of Eastern Washington first. I invite you to visit my website at www.mcmorrisrodgers.house.gov for additional information or to sign up for my e-newsletter. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of further assistance.
Best Wishes,
Cathy McMorris Rodgers
