Marty thats fighting talk those who dont use .30 cal MAY take offence.. not me though 6.8mm or 5.56mm will do the job for me. its all horses for courses really at the end of the day you will use what you have and the only one whose opinion really matters is your own.for the record I started out hunting with a .410 then .12ga then .303 & 30/30 the 30/30 got swapped for a newish .270 that I still have today. why would you swap? the guy with the .270 pig hunted over dogs alot and I was getting keen on deer.
my 1st stag was taken with the 30/30 and alot of goats n pigs too.

The 30/06 has taken every game animal on this planet, granted, it's over 100 years old but with modern powders and bullets it will and can keep up to the latest youngsters.

The do anything 30/06 ranges from gophers to elephants is this cartridge, sure you can load it up with 110gr noslers and go varmint hunting, or you can load it up with 250grs barnes to take care of imposing bad game.

the same could be said of the .303 or the 7.62x39mm or the .223 just a matter of personal choice at the end of the day. and yes I am a 30/06 fan too.
