tonight I let the dogs out and they went crazy, my Yorke and the other small pound puppy mutt, like a peekapoo or something similar had some critter cornered at the basement door by the back porch. whatever it was it was hissing something horrible, and when I came around with the flashlight, it was a big old fat ugly American Opossum.

I didnt want the dogs to get into a scrap with it, and really the only one big enough to tangle with it was my Shepard, but he is a big wussy and was sitting in the back room looking outside. I also didnt want to shoot it at 2am this morning, So I put the little dogs in, and grabbed the bow. Mini Mag in my mouth, compound bow in my hands, and I shot the fat little bastard right through the head and into the torso. He was down at the bottom of the steps from me so it just happened that way. What I didnt expect was to have pegged the bugger to the basement door with the arrow, and he was still alive too. Had to finish him off with a my foot on a spade , placed firmly at the neck line to make it as quick as I could. Then I buried him in a solemn service for him/her where the dogs cant get to. I dont like Opossums, but I dont want to make something suffer a lot either.
So thats my great night hunting story for tonight kiddies. Now tuck yourselves in and have a good nights dream, or white tails and antelope , leaping through the woods.
for you Aussies, you can make it big Reds and Wombats, dancing in the Bush. Laughing

these are not the cute possums like you have there. These are ugly trash eating scavengers. Like big ugly rats. www.247wildlife.com/ph...sum021.jpg

You want it? I'll be glad to dig it up and put it on dry ice and ship it to you. LOL

That is one of the meanest, ugliest lookin' critters I think I have ever seen...other than the last time I looked in the bathroom mirror. Them fangs look evil, mean, wicked and downright nasty.

Good shooting with the bow Dan...and well done on the humane "coup de grâce" mate.

Cheers, Vince

Geez - You beat me to it Dan. I hope our exes don't get together. Could be the beginning of a horror movie.

I have a beanie hat made from your NZ Opossum. Awesome stuff. Let folk here feel it and man they cant believe how luxurious it is. Then I tell them what it's made of and they snap back like it's a rattler. No, it aint that kind...NZ opossum is more like a mink. Oooooh, they say. I love that hat....warm and cozy no matter what! No stink either!
