Howdy. What primers do you use Question . I have pretty much setteled on the cci bench rest primers. They cost a little more but i think it's worth it i have noticed better groups with them( more so in the med size cases than the large cases) but i use them in both. I figure accuracy is based on consistancy so if the primers are more uniform it has to help, just my opinion. What do you prefer Question

For many years I used CCI primers for rifle, handgun and shotgun and liked them very much. About ten years ago I started switching to only Winchester primers and they work well, too. No real reason for the switch, I just prefer Winchester. All the best...

Living where I do, I have to take what I can find, mostly Win. and have had good results, some Rem. and CCI now and then and no real problems with any,all do pretty good for me.

The Nosler reloading manual uses Federal Gold Metal Match in the loadings for my calibers, so I'm going to try those. I used to use only CCI, but I am willing to try whatever works best in my loads.

Hello Joe,

I'd like to see someone do an indepth analysis on the merits of the various primers. I use Federal Match and Remington in small and large rifle. The only difference I can detect is in the cost. I made up loads in about 10 different calibers where the only variable is the primer, everything else is the same. In some loads the Remingtons shot best, in others the Federal, but the differences were not significant. When shooting the same rifle, one day I'd get better results with one, on another day with the other. I can't really tell any noticeable difference. Best wishes.

Howdy Cal. I have never compaired them like you have. When i switched to the br primer it apeared to improve my grouping in the smaller cases but noticed no difference in the larger ones. It would be nice to see some statistics on them.

With Varget and Benchmark, CCI BR2s, N135/140/150- Fed 210s and most ball powders, Winchester.

Cal, I talked to two notiable BR guys with different opinions of primers. One said CCI 200/BR2 were the coolest while the other said they are the hottest. One said Winchesters were the coolest, the other Winchester were hotter. Both agreed Federals and Remingtons were in the middle.

My method for finding a load is first, find one that shows promise with Fed 210s. Second try other primers to see if the groups and extreme spread tightens up. Third, play with the bullet seating depth and finally stock bolt torque. If all that, if the rifle doesn't produce the groups I expect, I sell the blame thing to someone and build another one!

I have been using FEDERAL primers for over 20 years.

Tried just about ever thing else, most consistant chronograph readings with the FEDERAL. I HAVE NEVER LOOKED BACK.

Use REMINGTON for shotguns.

I have always used CCI's,.. order a couple 1,000 of each just so I have some always on hand.

After all of the different loads I have developed over the years,.. to swap out to a different brand primer now could mess up the whole ball of wax.

I use CCI down the line for both large and small calibers. Have not had any accuracy problems with them. When and if I do I'll try some other brand.
