I stayed at a friend's cabin in Colorado this past week for a ski vacation. They had some firearms left by a family member that had recently passed away and wanted me to check them. One was an Interarm Mark X Viscount in 7mm Rem Mag. It had a Mauser action with a 24-inch barrel. I did some internet searches and found that they were imported from Manchester, England from 1962 to 1993 but not much else. There weren't even any on the internet for sale so they don't appear to be that common. Does anyone know anything about these firearms? Do they have a reputation for accuracy? Thanks in advance.

Shocked Slimjim-I've got two of them, one is factory that I bought at a pawn shop and it's accuracy is still lacking(but the action is good)the second is one that I built by pieces, and it is an honest 1moa shooter with handloads and sometimes <moa!I bought the action to make into a 458 winmag but never returned to alaska so I screwed in a $20.00 barrel from a gunshow and it was the right combo!I tend to be a little fond of 7mag caliber. Laughing BTW the homemade unit had the action made in Yugoslavia-back when there was a yugoslavia!Still says interarms markX magnum mauser-whitworth action.

There have been a lot of rifles, both custom and factory, built on the Interarms Mark X actions. From what I can find Mark X rifles were made for Interarms by Zastava in the former Yugoslavia. Zastava has been making that basic rifle for around 50 years, marketed under various names such as Herters, Parker Hale (not all Parker Hales are Zastava rifles), Century, Golden Bear, Interarms, Charles Daly, Remington (Remington 798 and 799) and etc. Enoufh have been made that pretty much all of the various stock makers offer stocks for this action.

Thanks for the info TRBLSHTR and SSL! I figure this one was an early version in the 60's or 70's based on the info the family had. It has a 6x Redfield scope on it. The stock was fitted for their father. The bold wouldn't insert until I cocked the firing pin. Unfortunately, it was but away dirty and had picked up some rust. I tried cleaning it but couldn't get it all out including what looked like some rust inside the barrel. There were other old guns in the cabin but this looked like the only one that might still have some value.

Hopefully a little work with some JB Bore Paste will clean up that rust in the bore. Shouldn't cause too much trouble unless it is deeply pitted. Re-barreling is always an option of last resort, but hopefully it won't come to that.

That's a sweet lookin gun! JB bore paste for sure. I use it on all my guns and it really cleans up an old action too. Something I found on the internet about it's value;

Depends on the quality of the stock and bluing on the steel. A standard Mark X in .30-06 in good condition (some use and wear, but nothing bad) should fetch $350-450 on the online gun auctions in my experience. There are some variations like the Whitworth which have a higher value (it will be stamped "Whitworth" on the receiver). Also, specialty stocks like a full-length Mannlicher stock will make it worth more as will rifles in the larger magnum calibers.

From the Thirtieth Edition of the Blue Book of Gun Values.

MARK X VISCOUNT - 24 in. barrel, adj. rear sight and trigger, classic style Monte Carlo stock. Disc. 1983, reintroduced 1985, disc. 1996.

100% - $375
98% - $300
95% - $265
90% - $240
80% - $225
70% - $205
60% - $190

Early manufacture was done in Manchester, England. Recent manufacture is in Yugoslavia. Earlier Manchester guns (before approx. 1980) will bring a slight premium over the values listed.

I couldn't find any info on accuracy for the rife. I'd say it's a keeper just because I like the action and the stock. I haven't seen any on GunBroker, but older sold listings on other auction sites.

nuthin to do
Suz

Thanks, Suz, for the valuable info. I think the value of a rifle this old will come down to what someone is willing to pay for it. I offered to help them in any way, e.g., clean the gun up, sell it, etc. Maybe they will take me up on my offer. Being able to shoot it will tell a lot.

Nice rifle. Those Interarms are very well built Mauser actions from Zastava in the the former Yugoslavia, now Serbia. It should last a 100 years or more.
