I cannot say with 100% accuracy but I have been told that it is due to the hardness of the CCI cups. This was the same reason for the problems with the Dillon machines. Any others heare anything??

I remember the instructions that came with my Lee 1000 said not to use Federal primers with the auto primer feed because the cups were too soft and presented a detonation problem. Some years ago a friend in Sydney spent a week in hospital after a full tube of Federal primers detonated in the primer feed of his Dillon press. He still has "shrapnel" in his chest and nearly lost the sight in one eye.

As for CCI I haven't heard anything about not using them in a Lee press. I use CCI primers in my Lee Load All without any dramas, yet, when loading shotshells and from memory they say nothing about not using them.

Cheers, Vince

I'm just trying to throw you off my trail a bit Bushmaster. Very Happy I was experimenting and trying to find one with my mug but I think I've settled on this one. What do you think? Laughing

Maybe I was mistaken about Lee not liking CCI, its late and I just got off work. I will have to re-read my Lee info.

Oh...
Back to the subject...CCI primers can be used in the Lee Auto prime systems. I use only CCI and Winchester and have never had a detination in over 20 years...I believe the above poster...What was his name??...Let me think here....Vi...no...yes Vince. Fedreral primers were the ones that Lee warned about...

Love the crowbars...Very fittin' for a rifle...and especially a Marlin... Very Happy

I have never had a primer detonate while reloading as well. But I have never used a Lee Auto Prime system.

But then again Crowbars are just as, or more handsome than Jack Handles, and tougher. ROFL

well i heard back from winchester.

the girl first got snippy.

winchester doesnt allow defective products!

then she stated well you must prove there defective so send 20 cases that have been shot with the defective primers and send 20 handloaded rounds unshot with the defective primers and we will look and see how you reloaded them wrong and get back to you thank you very much and she hung up.

shakes head and starts buying CCI components

ive only been reloading about 7 months {only 3000 shells loaded} and yes i may have did it wrong, except i have taken several loads and gave them to my gunsmith/gunshop where they also love enfields. they looked and shot my reloads and tell me i do the prettest reloads they have ever seen. i use lee dies and crimper and a lee handpress.

i will now stop buying winchester brass and primers. the winchester attitude ends my buying from them as of this moment.

Winchester Ammo and Components are made by Olin. They are not going out of business.

It's just the New Haven CT plant that is closing and they only make the 94's, 70's, and 1300's. That 'Winchester' outfit is owned by a city in Belgum.

I hope that the problem with this box of primers is resolved with Winchester.
One box of problem primers is not enough for me to stop buying Winchester components. Also, what does a female csr (customer service rep.) know about reloading. I would suggest calling back and talking to a knowledgeable person who cares.
