I have a Rem 700 BDL in 25-06, that I bought new back in the late 80's, that shoots very well. It will shoot a 3 shot group (my reloads)at 100 yrds with pretty much all bullet holes touching if I do my part. All I did to mine was free float the barrel. I really like my 25-06 and it is the only 700 I have. I have a Rem model 788 in 22-250 that shoots as good as well. A friend of mine just bought a 25-06 in a sendero and I think, from going to the range with him, that my 25-06 will out shoot his.

IMO the WORST Rifle I ever bought was a 700BDL Varmint in .308 Win. No matter how much work I put into it teh best group looked like a shotgun pattern, @ 4" at 100 yards was the best. This was a New in the Box rifle.
I was finally able to borescope the barrel and about 8" up from the throat one side of teh barrel there was no rifling, I sent it back to Remington and they did replace the barrel, on its return the barrel was loose in the action and I could turn it out by hand. Back it went, on the second return they had tightened the barrel but it ws not headspaced correctly, it would not chamber Factory Ammo, the chamber was .035 too short. Back a third time and then it finally shot, Good enough for 3" at 100 yards . I had enough and sold it at a loss.

On the other hand, I have an old Mod 81 in .35 Rem that was my Grandfather's. That rifle can shoot! Then there is my set of 1100s, both are the Special Field Models with 21" barrels and the Straight Stock, I wouldn't change these out for anything! The same goes for my 870! Remington should drop their rifles, sell only the actions and let someone who knows what they are doing bulid the rifle from their action.

Most here know that I Love Savage Rifles to me you can't beat them for accuracy, dependability, versitility or price. On top of that, anyone with any mechanical ability can change to a diffrent caliber in just a few minutes for only the cost of a barrel.

My second choise for a rifle would be Ruger, love the looks, the accuracy that I have had from those that I have bought and the way that their stocks are shaped they seem as if they were made just for me. Cool

Yes, this rifle has the bolt lock, so far I have not had any problems associated with it. The problems I had were with the fitting of the stock to the rifle. It was truly digusting to see this kind of work done to such a nice stock. I have seen the HS presicion stocks machined by HS P. before, but Remmington fits the HS P to there receivers. After freefloating the barrel, and glassbedding the action, I have got the gun shooting 1/2" groups at 100 yards with hand loaded ammo, if I can do my part. But irregardless, one should not have to do that kind of work to that kind of gun.
