This is a picture of the exterior of Fort Macon, located on the NC coast. Brickwork fort built in the 1820-30s. Robert E. Lee even had a hand in it. We were down that way on vacation in Oct. '10. How'd you like to touch off that gun!

Awesome pic Punkin. Looks like a great place to visit...I love old, historic military sights.

And...yep...I'd put a match to the touch hole.

There are some reenactment groups that do living history programs in the fort. I'd like to get a chance to do one. I've done some at Fort Fisher, in NC, but it was an earthworks fort and a lot of it is gone now, taken by the ocean.

Elvis, there's water on three sides of the place! Boy, that cannon loaded with bird shot would sure put a punt gun to shame...
