Try some 3 1/2" Winchester Supreme XX Magnums (2 1/4 oz. of #5 shot @ 1150 fps) outta a Benelli Nova.

Been there done that......With a Maverick !!!

IMO the 3 1/2 offers no real advantage in turkey hunting.

I shoot 'em, 'cause I still can (for turkeys). In a GOOD year (around here anyway) ya shoot twice after ya pattern yer gun. In a BAD year, ya either shoot 3-4 times or ya don't shoot at all (I guess it depends on yer perspective).

I don't shoot 3 1/2's at waterfowl anymore, too little ROI. I can miss 'em just as well with with 2 3/4" or 3" shells and NOT spend the extra money...

Rules were not changed to allow rifles for hunting deer in lower Michigan, thus discussion on the alternatives.

Sitting here swimming in oblivion from the pain killers. BUT, I can tell ya, most deer hunting accidents in Mississippi come from shotguns. Buckshot can not be aimed.

We used to hunt by conducting silent deer drives. We made it a rule that NO ONE in the hunting party could use a shot gun because it was just too dangerous having all the lead flying about in different directions.

Just my 2 cents.

tcknight if you want to see lead fly in all directions fire pellets through a rifled barrel. it makes BIG do nut patterns at 25yrds the hole in the middle is about a meter/yard. not recamended at all. we shoot wallabies with pellets and dont have problems with stray shot, but then again we chose the people we hunt with carefully and on a drive. the safety brief is first on the list. break the rules and look out cause everybody will jump on ya like a ton of bricks.

Some states do not allow the use of buckshot.......slugs only !!!

Drives I was involved in didn't allow drivers to carry guns. Shooters were only permitted to shoot once the deer cleared the line going away from the drive.

I've never hunted deer with buckshot but it reminds me of hunting squirrels and rabbits with a shotgun (and birds). I got tired of picking shot out of the meat so hunted just with my 22 rifle. It worked great on squirrels and if you wait for the rabbit to stop to see what spoked them, you usually got a clean shot off.

Is it similar with buckshot on deer?

2 3/4 12ga. 00 buck only has 9 pellets...... 3in has 15..........compared to about 280 pellets for 1 1/4 oz of #6's I would imagine you'll be spitting less of them out !!!

I switched to hunting squirrels with a .22 for the same reason. Then I met an ole timer from Kentucky that got mad at me for shooting them in the head!!! wtf

I'll bite - why would there be an issue with a head shot?
