I've had Ford's Chevy's and now Dodge's all with auto hubs the only ones I have had any trouble with the hubs are the Ford's. My '02, '06, '07 Chev's worked flawlessly. My wife's and my'08 Dodge's haven't given me any trouble. The automatic hub has come a long way I'm like Bushy I really don't want to have to get out in nasty weather just to lock the hubs.

Snatch blocks are a great tool.

Both my kids have Ford's that needed new hubs, great trucks just a bad hub design.

No doubt early auto hubs had faults !!! I just find it ironic how Ford was the first to use them in the Bronco II and because of their troubles none are any good now!!!

Per the winch, I understand pull angles and the like, I am certified for hoist/crane operation from when I was working. Its just alot of hoists, just like a lot of electrical motors nowadays are made sub-par. Even in ideal conditions they are over working to do the job they are "rated" to do.

Company "A" may sell the hoist listing 5,000 pounds, while company "B"sells their hoist listing also 5,000 pounds. But Company "A"s hoist weights 1/2 of what Company "B"s does, and has a smaller motor because the working load verses design load factor is smaller.

If you get what I am saying? Confused

Ramsey and Warn are the two that I recommend looking into!!!
If you can’t find what you want from Ramsey........No one makes it!!!
They make them for ATV’s up Industrial applications.

If you’re not familiar with winch prices........you may want to sit down before looking!!! Shocked

I don't know about winches, but I've been told good hoists cost about a dollar per rated pound.

Would I be correct to assume a winch wont be more then that? Shocked

If you want a quality winch (sounds like you do) expect $1500-$2000 as a starting price for units in the 10,000-12,000 lb rating.

Trust me!!! You can spend more!!! This is for starters.

It all depends on what you want. If your not familiar with them you need to do some reading and understand the different types and options to see what you want and need.
Then you need to mount it!!! That can get pricey too!!!

Very true. The winch alone is 1,600$ (quick browse through the Warne and Ramsey sites turned up the Warne M12000 winch, I do like its slightly hidden mount ( Link ).

I am thinking this will take a while, between college, car payments and the like. Sad
