Actually Dimitri, I was going to put the pistol on lay-by for the price of $410.00, because I know that I could sell it next season for at least $500.00.
I figured that I would have time to sell one of my firearms that I don't use in a month or so.
One of the guys that works there told me about the employee's sale coming up, and that is when we put the gun in the back until Sunday.
Most likely, I will give the 1911 to either Ben or Zach in the future.

I will use my Christmas money to pay for it.
Boy, I still can't believe that I will get it for $275.00.
My PT 1911 shoots darn near as well as my Kimber Custom Target II at 50yds, and I wouldn't hesitate on second to use them in competition if I have a malfunction with my Kimber.

Hey D.--I see that ESPN Outdoors.com is going to Stream the Duck Calling World Championships live on Saturday, so the Family and I will be able to see Ben compete down there.
He left today with his sponsor.
They will goose hunt in Wisconsin tomorrow, then head to Stuttgart.

Eric

Neat, I don't catch ESPN but if I remember I will check it out online. Smile

What a deal! Under $300 for a 1911 style handgun is almost as good as you can get. I have a 30-30 barrel for my Contender that I haven't even mounted on my frame yet. I need to find a "soft" load for it so both my wife and I can shoot it. I also need to find a rifle stock for the frame as it is currently a pistol. I gues I should start by looking for the stock and then look at some powders.
Anyone have any ideas on double base powders from Hodgdon? I will probably be using a 110 to 130 grain bullet.

Paul I have a savage bolt action 30-30 that I load 34 grains of Varget with the 130gr Hornady spire point and it shoots very well Very Happy .

What size barrel do you have for your Contender Paul?

I used to own a 10" BBL Contender and I found that Varget was a bit slow for it so I dropped back to another ADI (now Thales) powder called AR2207. The burning rate for this powder is very close, if not identical to W680, H4198, Reloader 7 and IMR4198.

Powder Equivalents

In my Contender (10" remember) 23.5gr of AR2207 was gentle, but nice and accurate, and was more than adequate on the IHMSA steel Rams at 200 yds. In fact, my 15 yr old daughter could shoot the pistol single handed and loved it.

I do however, use Varget exclusively in my Mod 94 30.30 Winchester rifle.

Cheers, Vince

Mine is not really a pistol barrel - that's why I need a shoulder stock.
The barrel is 20" and that is just a bit much for my pistol grip.....

In the recent past Bullberry has had excellent prices on rynite stocks and forends for Contenders and Encores. Also some walnut.

Just be carefull when prowling their website. Things tend to jump in your pocket looking for a new home. Very Happy

If a guy had extra cash, he could make some pretty good money buying used guns at Gander.

I forgot to say that Gander had a Model 36 Chiefs Special for $199.00 when I put my PT1911 on lay-by.

The 36 was in perfect condition, and if I would have had the money, I could have made a couple of hundred dollars on it.

I see that it was gone when I went in to make my first payment on my .45.

I see a lot of good used guns going low during this economic downturn.
