I use both powders and pellets. If you are looking for optimum accuracy in your rifle then granular will allow you to fire different loads to find the most accurate in your rifle.

You don't have that much flexability with pellets. But, pellets are awfull handy on a hunt and a standard load of 100 gr of Triple Se7en pellets is medicine enough for deer in a 50 cal. Using Pyrodex in a magnum load capable rifle you can use 3 pellets or a 150 gr equivilant in a 50 cal.

Again in a 50 cal magnum capable rifle using Triple Seven Powder ffg or fffg you can use up to 120 grs of granular or with Pyrodex 150 gr. granular.
Accuracy can be found with any granular choice but hunting accuracy is there with pellets or granular.

Black powder is getting harder and harder to find in sporting goods stores so you might want to start your testing with the substitutes. What you use is more of a personal use application. Avoid traditional vs. new way controversy, just use what works best in your rifle.

If they stop making or it gets too hard to get Black powder I do know one thing...I won't have to try Pyrodex. I've already tried it and it took almost twice the charge to equal 100 grains of Goex FFG. I'm moving a .495 patched ball at 2000 fps from my TC Hawkin (cap lock). And the Pyrodex couldn't match it (not even close) and scattered the balls everywhere.

I use both. I use powder in my side locks and pellets in my inlines. Both with great results. Remember its not only your charge but how good you know your gun. We can get pellets here in Georgia in 50 gr and 30 gr and so far as black powder the feds changed the laws and stores have to have a special vault outside the stores to store it in. So many dont even bother with it anymore......happy hunting

Very Happy I've always used powder. Recently swithced over to Hodgdon's 777 and using the new Remington 209 "Muzzleloading Primers". I really like this powder. It doesn't foul nearly as bad as Goex. No smell and doesn't form the salts that corrode so badly.

No!!! Full octane very strong. No cream. No sugar. Sometimes Navy rum or whiskey though... Evil Devil

For the time being I will continue to use Black Powder in my front stuffer and enjoy the grimences on the faces down wind... Very Happy

Cool I use all of it, FFg, FFFg, FFFFg, Pyrodex RS & Pyrodex Pellets. In my Traditional Flintlocks and Percussion I use Black Powder, FFg in my 54s and FFFg in my 45 & 50, most of the time I use the same powder for the priming charge but I have a 50 that has a bit of an ignition problem I'm working on and have to use FFFFg for the priming charge, the angle of the hammer needs to be changed so I can get better sparking from the frizzen, I just haven't taken the time to fix it yet.

I use Pyrodex RS & Pellets in my In-Lines, I have one 54 that likes 100gr and the pellets only come in 60gr size and my other 54 & 50 like pellets.

I used 777 one time and don't like the way it forms a ring down by the bullet so gave the rest of the 777 away. Cool
