Your Son will apprecieate the Browning more than the Norinco in the future.

Dallan,
You might still want to buy the Browning now. They just keep going up in price.

I just absolutely without a doubt, love this rifle. I'm a lefty so the bottom ejection is awsome for either type of shooter. Very accurate, few jams when kept moderately clean. I cant wait to get my boy one in a few years.

Dallan, your gun was the first thing to pop into my mind when I thought about a favorite. The next thing to enter my mind was the reason why I don't like it, which perversely is the same reason you do like it - it ejects out the bottom.

When you are shooting up into a tree at a squirrel, the hot, spent shells go right down the shirt sleeve of your supporting hand and burn the #$%^ out of your arm!

Therefore, my favorite is my 1969 Nylon 66 in Apache Black.

However, I don't think that there is a more accurate autoloader than your choice.

Sorry about the mess. I've been reloading...

Bushy,

That's a great lookin Marlin. The guy what learned me to shoot had one similar, his kid dropped it down a hillside one day and broke the original stock and even with a locally built replacement I never could talk him into parting with it.

I have to say, Even though my primary .22 now days is a standard (almost) Ruger 10/22 my favorite is my Winchester 62A in 22 short passed down for 3 generations. I honed a lot of my skill with this rifle when I was a kid. last time we went out with a winchester, I was hitting just as good with CB shorts as the otherguys with bigger center fire rifles at 50 yds. I fire Winchester Hi-Vel 37 grain HP .22LR at 100 yards and would feel quite comfortable going after squirrels at this range if they are quite visible with this Marlin Mod 81. It does pretty good with shorts and longs too...Although I haven't seen any .22 longs in a while...

I stripped the original finish from the stock a number of years ago and found a very pleasent light colored grain wood so I finished it with a blonde stain. Really sets the blued metal off right nicely...

I bought a Squires Bingham (Phillipino made) M20 semi .22 back in '86 for $92 brand new with a 15 rnd clip.
Got a 30 rnd clip and mounted a 3x9x40 burris scope...untold 1000s of rnds and god knows how many thousands of ground hogs and gophers later, it still shoots bulls-eyes at 50 yrds and can drop gophers at 100 yrds free hand with a bit of luck on my part.

Just bought a 10/22 as a backup just cause the SB isn`t made anymore and if something inside breaks, it might be difficult to fix. Having said that, its still my #1 gun to use....then theres my .204 Smile

My rifle must be the "newer" model of Bushmasters. It is an 881 bolt action. I love that long tube that holds about 18 bullets!

When I got it, the trigger was very heavy and full of creep. But after my gunsmith nephew spent 10 minutes with it the trigger pull became 2 1/2 lb with no creep-it's great! And to think I nearly sold it to get a Kimber.

Arizona Hunter. Mine is quite old and was manufactured before they had to put serial numbers on .22 rifles. Yours?

I only have two 22 rifles. One is a Nylon 66 that I purchased used in 1964. My fav is a recent (2004) acquisition. The fav is a Stevens 414 Armoury Model. For those not familar with the breed it is an under lever rolling block target rifle. It was represented as being about 85 years old when I bought it. It has been well used and the bore is still shiny with well defined rifling. Puts Velocitors into a half inch group at 50 yds. I use it for squirrels and such. The case hardening on the receiver is still well defined and the barrel bluing looks good until you get it in the sun, then it has semi-bare spots.

As I bought it. With the Weaver B6 scope and a cheap target mount.

As it is now, with the Unertl.

I have a weakness for single shots and old stuff.

Crackshot,

Your scope base, rings & adjustment assembly looks very much like what came on my 414. Except at some point the original scope had been swapped for the Weaver B6 scope. Do you know who that mechanism was made by?

Those rolling blocks are impressive! They have very nice lines. Sometimes a classic is born classic.
