The New School Prayer

This was written by a teen in Bagdad, Arizona, and is incredible!

Now I sit me down in school
Where praying is against the rule
For this great nation under God
Finds mention of Him very odd.
If Scripture now the class recites,
It violates the Bill of Rights.
And anytime my head I bow
Becomes a Federal matter now.
Our hair can be purple, orange or green,
That's no offence; it's a freedom scene.
The law is specific, the law is precise.
Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.
For praying in a public hall
Might offend someone with no faith at all.
In silence alone we must meditate,
God's name is prohibited by the state.
We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,
And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks.
They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.
To quote the Good Book makes me liable.
We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,
And the unwed daddy, our Senior King.
It's "inappropriate" to teach right from wrong,
We're taught that such "judgements" do not belong.
We can get our condoms and birth controls,
Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles.
But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,
No word of God must reach this crowd.
It's scary here I must confess,
When chaos reigns the school's a mess.
So, Lord, this silent plea I make:
Should I be shot, my soul please take!
Amen

Jesus said, if you are ashamed of me," I will be ashamed of you before my Father."

Yes, I do Love God. He is my source of existence and Saviour.

He keeps me functioning each and everyday. Without Him, I will be nothing. Without him, I am nothing, but with Him I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me. Phil 4:13.

I am not an overly religious man, but I am definitely a believer. I had to post this one. Of course I took out the "send this to 10 people if you ....etc etc etc"

Cheers, Vince

I've hear some of the school prayers before but not that one. It's good.

Me and my friends, mostly teachers, have the theory that as long as there's tests in school there'll be prayers.

That makes sense to me Tinker Bell.

I said on one of the threads some time ago when this subject came up.....people who migrate to a democratic Christian country need to understand that although they are free to follow their religion they must accept that the principal religion of their adoptive country is Christianity and learn to live with it instead of doing everything they can to change it to suit themselves.

Cheers, Vince

I've had a great debate on it lately with my seniors. They all agree that if you don't like the prayer at the time go outside during it and then come back. I've never heard seniors so fired up about anything other than lowering the drinking age.
Whatever happened to majority rule?

Thanks Vince. So am I. A friend of ours who is an attorney represented a student who wanted to have a Bible related club after school. They had met all the requirements for one but the school wouldn't allow it. They had all kinds of other clubs, bizarre stuff like TM. The school kept getting hammered in the courts, freely spending huge sums of tax payer money on the trial, appeal after appeal, attorneys fees and costs for the student but they kept trying to get away with their policy of discrimination.

Why would you want to see my take on this?
The public schools in the area of Washington that I live in have after school prayer meetings run completely by students that work very well. Any student, at any time is free to pray in any public school. What isn't allowed is faculty led prayers. That is a good thing. With all the liberal kooks that are teachers now-days I would be afraid to see what they might do. You might get anything from Buhddist chants to Zoasterine or Dervish dancing. You gotta be thankful that faculty isn't allowed to lead prayers in public schools. I am thankful that the schools can't keep our kids from praying. That is their constitutional right.

true but with how close I am to the "kook" who is trying to remove the word god from anything that has to do with government they are afraid to let the kids have a prayer infront of anyone. which means students can't lead a prayer before a sporting event or anything.

Sad but true. I'm not a very religious person, but I feel if someone wants to pray, they can. I believe it falls under the catagory of free speech??

RPM1031 - What is TM?

Gidday Paul...how are you going mate?

I think that wanting to see your take on this is because you are a man of the cloth. Your views are well respected, straight forward and honest; your post is exactly that.....can't ask for anymore than that. Additionally it is interesting to get a clergy's viewpoint.

RPM1031......I'm really disappointed to hear that the school felt the need to deny those that wanted it, the Bible Club. I wonder if things would have been different if it was another religion wanting a club? Interesting thought.

Sad this wasnt followed in the beginning of both our countries then.
Imagine no fences, no money, no taxes, living in harmony with the land instead of how it is now. and following an Earth loving being thankful religion instead of a violent one.
we wouldnt be speaking English if they had followed this then.
of course with all the Native Tongues of the Aboriginals of both lands, it would be hard to decide on what would be the 1 language to speak. for this land over here stretches from the north pole to Tierra del Fuego.

So I guess the Genocidal beginning that both our nations share had to be to get to where we are today.

regards

As the indians stamped hundreds of buffalo over cliffs before "white" man got here. Living with nature? I know of no human that did that throughout history. Maybe to survive nature would be a better way to put it. The only difference was that there were less humans to interfear with nature as they interacted with it in times past. Given the present population to the indians of yester year and we would be farther behind then we are now. There were just too few humans (indians) on this continent to have a real impact on nature in times past... In fact there are places where there are more game such as deer now then there was then. I would blame all men (and women) on this earth. Not just "white" men (and women). It's just what humans do...

The smog in San Jauquin Valley of california was worse in the 1700s and 1800s then it is now because of all the fires that the indians used to process the game they killed to survive the next winter. It's just what humans do...

NO...We are all guilty...As charged...

Prayer in schools...To be able to satisfy all religions you would have to have a period of silence in the morning, noon and afternoon. And still someone would be offended...Tough call. By The Way...I'm not against prayer in school as long as it doesn't interfear in schoolastic endeavers. These kids need more 3 Rs then teaching what their parents are supposed to be providing, including religious training...

The facts of our constitution are that it has a bill of Bill of Rights. Among the rights of the ctizens(voters)is the freedom OF religion. WE each have the right to worship as we see fit. This is a right to ALL by the Christian founders of our county laid down according to the gospel of my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. I believe it is always a mistake for zealots to try and force an issue. Jesus does not force us, but rather gently calls.

Great post, as usual Vince.
This is Divine Mercy Sunday for us Catholics.
I am involved heavily in the Lay Ministries of the Catholic Church.
I am a Eucharistic Minister for one thing.
I give the Sacred Body and Blood to the Worshipers at Church, and also administer the Lords Body and Blood to the sick, the dying, and the homebound.
To do this is a Blessing from God.
Many times I feel the Holy Spirit when doing this.
At the Nursing Homes where I lead the Rosary, and help in Eucharistic Services, I see more Life in the eyes of the Old who attend, than I do in the young and supposedly healthy who do not believe in the Lord Jesus.
To not be able to teach God in schools is a shame. My wife is a public school teacher and we agree that if we had to do it all over again with our kids, we would send them to Catholic Schools.
We still might send our 10yr old twins next year to a Catholic School.
In my view, to deny God in Public Schools is a sign of the continuing deterioration of the Moral fiber of our Country.

Eric
