An Asian website company seems to have a script that is posting spam messages in the forums each day, while I try to delete them as they show up you guys might see them from time to time. Luckily their links dont appear to goto any porn or otherwise highly offensive content.

I am trying to figure out how to block that IP address so they cant post... I really dont want to be forced to make the forums accessable only to members but unless I can figure out how to block their IP directly I might have to.

So to recap I do know about and am working on blocking it

I am in the process of reformatting and re-installing everything on my system at home. I don't remember which forum site that I got hit at, either here or at savageshooters. What happened is I went to a link that someone posted and picked up a pop up/virus at the link site called "Spy Sherriff".

This bugger is a "KILLER"! I picked up 30 Trojans and 2 that attempt to take over my IP. Also included is an auto dialer. I've never had anything this nasty, you cannot even remove the program. It embeds in your regristry and won't allow itself to be removed or modified in any way. I am so glad that I back up my information or place it into another drive.

Please take care of where you all go and what you do. Get an Anti-Spy Ware program and keep your Anti-Virus up to date. What happened to me is that I went off my home server due to the server having a hardware problem and had no protection on my system as I totally forgot about being off the server. BE CAUTIOUS & SAFE!!

This time I'll put the same protections on all my systems and not just on the server, I won't pull this bonehead move again. Sure wish I could track this one down!!

I would suggest that you make all the old links inactive just to be on the safe side if you have the ability. To anyone that I have sent an E-Mail, PLEASE DELETE IT AND DON"T OPEN IT, for the time being I am using a hotmail account bkflint54 @ hotmail.com and the computer at work so I won't be on-line much for the next week or so.

How about no guest postings?

I've seen this on another site that I am the moderator on and it seems that the only way to get rid of this is to block it. The site that I moderate is also an open site where any one can post whether a member or a non-member.

I know it's a bit of a nuisance, but would it help to have everyone log in when they access the site? Quite a few sites are resorting to that now. Best wishes.

You could make it not posible to post active links for guests. Members would have smilies, HTML, and Formating and stuff.

Yes, I've had my fill of spammers and virius writting morons of late. I was gone for a week and came back to 756 emails, 250 or so from lists/friends/new flashes, the remainder were various porno, viagra, drug, cracked software, loans, business offers, ponzi scams, etc.

I've implemented a couple ideas and we havent had any repeats... so I'm keeping an eye on it.
