I would love to see this live, in person.

Pretty neat but with my little dogs I think I'd prefer they not be local.

That cat is way to tolerant of people!

There is no way I would let it lie there. A shotgun blast in the air and a pellet to the loins would teach it how to best survive.

I am not aware of the full story Paul...maybe he was raised by people and is "at home", maybe he was released as a near adult and got too big but prefers to be around people, or maybe he is actually "at home" because civilisation has encroached on his native land. Do these big cats, or all native cats, "visit" civilisation regularly in the US? Are they a real danger or do they simply depart when shooed away?

I would say that unless he is becoming a danger to people and he is "minding his own business" without begging for food or attacking pets etc, then I would allow him to stay but keep a very close eye on him. I must admit...I do have a soft spot for big or native cats; they are very regal, stately and impressive.

The way I look at it, people allow deer to hang around (although they don't eat back) and they appear tolerant of bears (them buggers will eat ya too), so maybe it is nice to have a bit of unusual wildlife around. One thing is certain...nobody will break into your house with him there. Very Happy Very Happy Laughing Laughing

Neat pic, but also don't know the whole story. Love them big cats, do not want them sleeping on my doorstep.

The cougar (mountain lion) is a predator that will normally avoid humans and dogs at any cost. You don't usually have to "shoo away" those or any wild cats in the USA. They are usually very hard to find and stay far from anything having to do with people. When raised in captivity they have to be in an enclosure with double walls and ceiling and it requires a permit to have them. When populations encroach on their territory they usually move. Those that don't end up killing pets and attacking small children for food and are removed and or destroyed.
Here in Washington state I have only ever seen two cougars and they were at long distances. One was across the Entiat river in rocky mountainous terrain and the other was while riding a horse with a group. The cats quickly exited when they saw us.

OK...strange then that this one is resting on the doorstep of the house. Maybe he is unwell or something. Hopefully he is not seen as a danger and destroyed...unless he shows aggression towards kids.

I don't trust 10 lb cats, I sure wouldn't trust that one!

I wonder what a cougar and an ostrich would think of each other...

It's Bushy's fault. I was thinking of a 1000 pound canary saying, "here kitty kitty."

That conjures up a very weird mental picture Paul...but a damned funny one.
