Personally I don't understand why some run it in the newer engines, it does shorten the time between regens.

Hmmmm !!!
According to what I've just read 2 stroke oil can lengthen times between regens.
Might have to do more experimenting. When I was running other additives it definitely shortened regens by about 125 miles.

I'm convinced... I'm in for a trial. My late brother-in-law had a business in heating oil. He recommended me to add in winter some (=a lot of: upto 25 lt for a tank of 70 liter!) kero (here called "petroleum", as for lamps, heating...) and some motor-oil because kero missed the oiling capacity.
I've tried that without problems, but I believe that 2-stroke oil is going to be better for this than motor oil.
when you know that gasoil prices reached the level here that some people already added rapeseed oil etc... (more expensive, but less expensive with taxes included)

Don't forget: trying to cheat the government a little bit keeps you young! Smile

PS: did I mention kero is almost without taxes here?

I think it really depends on what type of 2 stroke oil you use. Some of the synthetics like Amsoil have interesting properties than say, Yamalube. Personally, and after talking to alot of engine builders, I've gone away from the synthetics like AmsOil and back to petroleum based products for better lubrication.

I've seen several snowmobile engines that have only run synthetics for many thousands of miles, and have rust inside the case... petroleum products are more oily and may require more maintenance in other areas (exhaust valves), but then again, not as many broken crankshafts on real oil).

Drive to work with the car today, no marked difference felt.
Maaaaybe.. the engine run a bit quieter.. but then again.. I might be hoping.

I use Silkolene Comp 2 Premix in one of my motorcycles and Castrol R30 in the other. The R30 is castor oil based so I don't think that would be suitable, but the Silkolene is synthetic ester based so it might be an option (I'm looking at getting a Volvo XC60 "oiler" as soon as I can afford one), so all this discussion is very interesting.

Now thats one trick I have not heard of yet.
Wont the gunk (if any) block the injector?

Not so sure putting used 'modern' diesel sump oil into the tank. The modern sump oils for use in diesel engines have a heap of detergents additives in them.
