The 180 gr nosler partition is readily accesible around here...the 165 gr barnes ttsx is not.
I was hoping to take advantage of the increased velocity and bc of the barnes bullet. I realize the nosler bullet has an outstanding history on elk. From what I have read the barnes should provide similar results.

Anyone have any thoughts on the 150 gr barnes ttsx on elk? Or the 180 gr ttsx?

Both can be found fairly easily here. Again, the rifle is a 300 win mag, so the 168 gr barnes (which are on everyone's shelf) seems to not be an option.

Thanks

The link is broken.
I have never seen a partition fail to get the job done. If you ar going with a monolithic bullet drop the weight down and remember that they are longer than a lead core bullet so they need more twist than the cup and core bullets of the same weight. Going one step down usually gives you comparable stability. If you are happy with a 180 grain cup and core a 165 grain should perform similarly as far as twist rate is concerned. I 180 grain solid will be about as stable as a 200 grain cup and core of the same shape.
My 30-06 won't stabilize the 220 grain round nose and it barely stabilizes a 190 grain spitzer. The 200 grain spitzer boat tail will barely stabilize in hot weather but under the cold of hunting it tumbles. I have 1:10 rifling twist.

hj, 180 requires 1:11 twist as does the 175 LRX. I'm shooting the LRX in my .270 this year. It has been very accurate as have the GMX. Try ordering them on line. BTW, the 168 TTSX was designed for the .308 and the 165 TTSX for the .300 WM. Unless you load longer than SAAMI max COAL, the 168 TTSX won't work so you might have to check you gun for for mag length and distance to the land. Seems to be a lot of variation between manufacturers. 150 to 165 grain TTSX and Hornady GMX should do you very well in you 300 WM. My buddy shot his last elk with a 165 GMX in a 300 WM at 100 yards head-on. The GMX bullet went all the way to the rear under the skin - fully expanded with no weight loss.
