Snake load...12g 32 or 36 gram load of #6 or #7 doing about 1350fps just behind the head from about 10 feet would be adequate. Should take the head off nicely. Any further away and I would suggest getting a little closer. Wink Very Happy

For the Nile Monitor...shame to kill them, but they are invasive (feral) so I would step the load up to a 12g 32 or 36 gram BB load at about 1300fps behind the head should provide a lethal humane decapitation.

Adrenalin pumping through the system does funny things like that Tiks. Being close to the second deadliest snake in the world is enough to bring on the shakes enough to miss mate.

If they showed the brain the people would feel bad about killing snakes.

The leave the brain out so the liberals still think it's OK to kill snakes.

If they knew it had a brain they would register it to vote (often and for democrats).

True enough Punkin, which is why I suggest a 32 - 36 gram load of #6 shot. The pattern at around 10 feet should be wide enough to almost vaporise the entire "neck" section of a snake, effectively decapitating the bugger.

One thing to always remember...a snakes head, even when detached from it's body, is still more than capable of biting and injecting veom...so don't pick it up...just introduce it to Mr Shovel, KRAAAANG, krang krang krang, and even then don't touch it. If you have a shovel just bury the head and let nature take care of it to make it inert.

I know for a fact that a .22 Magnum shot cartridge from a 5.5" barrel at about 5' will pretty much remove the head of a copperhead. The body was still moving hours later, and that's just creepy!

They do move a lot after dead. I shot a diamond back once and decided it might be fun to skin it and BBQ it for lunch. Mom and Dad weren't home and so I brought it home all coiled up in a paper bag. Had a hard time skinning it because it was still worming around but I got it done. Even after skinning it, it was still worming and snaking around. I ended up putting it in ice water and it finally quit. Breaded it like fried chicken and put it on the BBQ in a cast iron pan. Mostly it was like eating rubber bands off of tooth picks. No real taste, just chewy rubber-bandy.....my Dad tried some but my Mom didn't go for it.

Well they have a snake BBQ every year down there, but I don't know what the attraction is, other than it's a snake to chew on. Not worth doin tho. I'd rather try something with some meat on it.

Something my Dad used to always tell us when we were kids...a snake doesn't "die" until after the sun goes down...it will keep moving up until then.

An old wives' tale, I know, but funny enough, it always seemed to work that way.

Yep...yer right Bushy, I am easily amused mate, or as Mum always said...small things amuse small minds. I did however always do as Paul recommends...bury the head...right after Mr Shovel has finished "chatting". Very Happy Very Happy Laughing Laughing Laughing

LOL yeah it is true that eating snake is like eating chicken neck.. all bone an only a little meat.

I have seen snake pieces wiggle on top of bbq hot plate.
It is awesome to watch.. apparently a minute after they stop wiggling, it is about right to eat.
