Suz, did you make that stand to display your rifles or is it part of your set-up to make stocks.

No that's my rifle stand for cleaning and I put a magazine block in there too for cleaning my AR. For making the stock I just used my bench vice. My camera doesn't give a good photo up close unless I'm really up close but I'll try and get some shots of the wood for you Vinnie.

Suz,
It looks to me that your work is worthy of more than just praise.
If I could do wood work like that I would make stocks for some of my older guns.

But I do a decent job when working with metal - so I will stick with the steel and you can make it look good adding the wood.

Here's some wood shots, the myrtle is mysterious when it comes to capturing the grain and streaking, you get what you get. I tried to find some decent dark streaks when I built it but sometimes you sand and saw past it into boring stuff. I didn't get much dark streaking but I'm happy to just have it done now.

Thanks for the close-up, Suz. It shows the rolling block off even better.

That looks great Suz...that piece of wood has character. It may not have the swirls and twists of a piece of walnut, but its myrtle, with all the character of that wood. It looks different mate, and that is also part of what makes it stand out.

Well done...from what I can see, your fitting is exceptional.

I agree, looks fantastic. The small burls and streaks look great, over all I think you have done a marvelous job. But, I do understand that sometimes our minds eye wants more than we can produce with the product at hand, none the less, good work lady.

Suz, those old curved, metal butt plates seem to magnify recoil. I think I'd take my first shot off-hand and not from the bench.

I kinda like it actually, it hugs my shoulder nicely. My loads are pretty anemic for this rifle (at least for now) so recoil is no more than a 30-30 might be. I thought it might be something to gouge me real good but it goes right to the best spot on my shoulder, like it was meant to be. They were actually designed to fit your arm just below your shoulder and I suppose a coat was originally intended to be worn. Not as mean as it looks.

Nice! I like the clean lines you made on the stock.
