I dunno who did get them Slim...but the buggers didn't leave any for us. We could not believe it...not a single rabbit in about 500 acres.

Elvis suggested RCD (Calicivirus) which is a possibility, or someone has decided to put some baits out. Whichever way, no bunnies for Vince. burr

Vince, at least you got some fresh air. Better luck next time.

Thanks Slim.

Yeah...it's unfortunate Suz that all too often that is the case...but I don't really know why. Maybe the game is evolving and becoming gun/human shy, maybe numbers are down because of over hunting (there are more people hunting these days), hunters ignoring bag limits or maybe it's because of poaching during off seasons. Whichever way, it all adds up to coming home empty handed.

As Slim said...at least we are getting some fresh air.

Went to a different farm for a change this evening, as they reported increasing bunny numbers.
Didn't see a single one.

Did see a roe buck & five minutes later a doe following his tracks, though she spent some time running around in a field full of cows before disappearing into the same barley field as the buck.
Saw two buzzards too; their numbers are definitely on the up.
Looks like rain for the rest of this week, so the window rest for the truck might see some use - if the furry ones are to be seen elsewhere.

Oh good one..
gelandangan got them first .. yeah right..

I spent most of the weekend huddled under the tarp because of the incessant drip from the sky..
It averages 6° C on day time and -5° C at night.
I do not mind the cold but cold and wet.. GAH!!!

I was following a deer, but lost it after about 1 hour of tracking..
So, looks like no luck for us in Oz this weekend for us H Nutters..

At least you saw something Mike. Laughing

Unlucky Gelan...it rained where I was as well mate, which eased the cold a little...Stanthorpe region is generally bloody cold this time of year. You are right about being cold AND wet...downright bloody miserable.

What region were you stalking deer mate, and what type of deer? Better luck next time mate.

About bleedin' time.....

Wasn't even going for bunnies & took this one at about 30yds with the 12ga loaded for pigeon - 30g of #6 shot.

Found a place where we can watch three warrens at once, though one of them's more challenging for subsonic .22lr at 140yds.
Here's to more fun in the next few months. Very Happy

Good on you Mike, it's a battle over here as to who get to them first, hunters or the hawks.

Great stuff Mike. That is a nice healthy looking rabbit for the pot mate.

Three warrens to snipe is brilliant mate...ya lucky bugger. I think 140 yds is a bug ask for a sub sonic mate...I'd consider something with a bit more oomph, in fact a .17 HMR would be perfect.

Good luck with bunny busting mate, it's a lot of fun and makes for some good stews.

might have to use standard .22 lr for the longer shots..if youve used subsonic for awhile it is a pleasant suprise how flat it shoots.

Got a range card out to 150 for Eley subsonics that uses the Mil dot (which I don't really like) reticle of my mate's 'scope & CZ455.
Out to 100 I'm happy with a head shot but past that I go for the heart/lungs shot, as the Eley's do a good job of "bang-flop" with a hit there.

Can't use standard velocity on this particular farm, as the owner specifies subsonics & suppressor so we don't disturb his cattle.
Elsewhere, for distance shots it's out with the .17 Remington....... Very Happy
