7's are nice. I am a fan of short rifles. Although it sounds more like a 700 now. 24 barrel and Boyd's laminated.

How did you go with the wisper? I was running 220 gn pills sub sonic, seated back the front

I cast these

237gn with hollowpoint 8 BHN lead on 9.5 gn of AR2205 that gets me about 1100 fps.
Works quite well.

They look good mate! Have you shot any critters with them? I was using the 220gn subsonic in a 30BR Lapua to cull Deer around residential areas

G'day fnuser
I tried RL22 powder, great velocity but couldn't get acceptable accuracy. I’ve been using my old load of 44.5 of ADI 2209 with 100gn Sierra game kings, accept for too much meat damage It’s perfect. I have some 100gn Partition loads made up with RL 19 to try if ever the rain clears up. I have another project I’ve been playing with!!! I came across a nice old Brno ZKK600 in 30-06, very nice rifle / caliber I should have had one years ago Cool .

I noticed that you play with wildcats, I've had a few in my time. I have a mate that's a very good gunsmith. I’ve been using a 6.5x47 Lapua necked up to 30 cal for quite a while, extremely accurate with 150gn Interbonds at 2920fps with 43gn of ADI 2206H. It’s another model 7 with a 22” MAB barrel, McMillan stock and a Kahles 8x56 scope. 8.5lbs all up, it’s the rifle I use the most.
What do you know about Brno ZKK600 rifles I bought a 1985 model in clean original condition 9lbs all up though it doesn’t feet that heavy, long action in 30-06. Like nothing I’ve owned before but it just felt good!

Does it have the pop up peep in the rear bridge? some do. BRNO's are just neat. That trigger is pretty nice after ya get used to it. I have just about given up looking for a zg47. Maybe I ought to get a zkk. My favorite w.c. is a .280 Ackley necked up to .323" I built one in a light rifle. Too light really, kicks and tries to twist out of the foward hand. I ought to twist that off and put a .280 Ackley on there and redo that chamber on a heavier scoped rifle. I got a .256 Newton on a F.N. and 6-284 on another used to be a J.C. Higgins 50. I also necked up a .240 Weatherby - .412. like a .405 for a bolt gun and can use .41 mag pistol bullets like a .444 marlin uses .429's. It looks like a 3/4 scale .458 Magnum, but uses a standard boltface. That may be more then you bargained for but maybe you will find something of interest there.

Thanks for the reply mate. mine has a 3 leaf rear sight in the normal position 1987 stamped on the barrel 1:9” twist, fast for a 30-06? I just like it, feels good, I put a nice 6x42 Zeiss on it . Been playing with 150gn Interbonds & RL 19, 61.5 gns @ 3050fps 4fps variation for 3 shots into ¾” no pressure signs. Mine has a normal trigger that’s been worked , very nice. The safety seem unusual push forward pull back to fire. I bought it intended to change it to 280 but I like it the way it is, don’t think I’ll worry about other projectile weights 150’s @ 3050fps will handle most things I shoot, though I should work up some 180’s. I’d like to get a good stock for it my other rifles have McMillan’s too expensive. I have my trusty 358 Winchester & 338-06 for big stuff. I’ll study up those calibers you mentioned, my gunsmith mate wants to build me a 20 Var Targ to complete my line up. Do you hunt animals? I don’t hunt for Trophy’s just for the freezer.

165 Hornady Spire is my fav .30-"06 load, like you say it works great around here. 1 year awhile back one went through 3 vertebrae on a big healthy 8 pointer right where the diaphram was made dust and shrapnel out of them. Most dramatic drop I have witnessed to date. He was in a hollow below me, facing away. I recovered the slug, about 75% left too. There is something about .280's. anything from 7-30 waters up to whatever will fit in an Ackley case seems to work. The .284 Winchester kinda has a following also. 7x64Brenneke in there too.

I tried the 150 Interbonds at 3050fps, very flat & kills like lightning but too much meat damage. I've gone back to the 165 Sierra SP GKings at 2880fps.
Got my 6mm rem sorted! 100gn Partitions 44.5gn ADI 2209 @3100fps, seated 4mm off the lands to fit the mag (short action) 5 into 1/2" @ 100m. I'll use that on a Fallow hunt next week, I'm taking a mate away for a week for the rut.
Cheers
Bob
