Are you going heavy with the lube? It only needs the lightest touch.

I have an old rag glued onto a flat board, I rub the lube into that and then roll my cases over the top.

Just my 2-cents on this ,,,,

I use pam cooking oil spray for the sizing lube,,

one lite spray on the hulls and one to the hand ,, been using this method for

years with on problems ,,, just finished 700 or so .223 -5.56 hulls with a LEE full length sizing die, here in the last few days.

man, even with spell check I'm gonna learn to spell someday Laughing

I've seen mixed reviews on the One Shot case lube but I've never had any problems with it. I stand my cases in a plastic bowl, spray from one side, rotate 180 degrees, spray again, shake them to help distribute the lube then let them dry before sizing. I think if you try to size while the lube is still wet you'll run into problems. I've used RCBS and Dillon lubes in the past and they also work well but are messier.

I use the Lee water based lube exclusively and put it on with my fingers. I wash the cases in hot water after sizing and no residue is left. Each case is lubed separately and the lube drys quickly. A little seems to go a long way. I can see how a thicker lube might cause problems but that is only speculation on my part.

Mac - FYI- I have loaded up to 27.2 of Varget with 55 gr JSP's in a .223 and not flattened primers ... Whole lot of crunching going on there.

55grn projectile 24.5grns AR2206 cci primer set at 2.264" works well for me. its mild and accurate.

Dawgdad: Yes, the crunching sounds bad. I wince when I hear it.

My problem is with the Barnes bullets. They are really long. Here is a picture of a 50 grn (0.855) Varmint Grenade and a 55 grn (0.734) FMJ. Although it is hard to tell from the picture the, VG also has a less sharp ogive which means I have to seat it lower to get a shorter OAL of 2.210. At 2.260 it is touching the lands. The FMJ load has an OAL of 2.260 although I can safely increase this to 2.30 in my rifle.
