You have to see this about Mommar Gadhafi

And I have to put this out there just because it seems so strange to me. Is it right for Obama to be assassinating without trial? Yes I know what they did, yes I know they also didn't give a hoot about human rights, but don't we have a handle on human rights and justice? Isn't that a part of our way of life? Aren't we above them all and have a more civilized way of dealing with them. Are we supposed to just wipe them off the face of the earth?

It seems we've stooped to the same level. I wonder how many other heads of state are going to even have dinner with Obama. I think his cowboying ways aren't enriching our standing with some. Just wondering what the ramifications are going to be.

Am I alone in my thinking? Can't think of him as a foreign policy president really, and does this make him a successes as commander-in-chief? Are we supposed to ignore the economic positions we're faced with? The priorities list must be somewhere, but campaigning is overshadowing, and his numbers aren't looking so good.....so we'll do this? How important is it?

He's taking credit for NATO intervention and I guess the French and British talked him into getting involved but Obama is sitting pretty (leading from the hind quarters) but sitting pretty. I feel we're in trouble, maybe it's just me but I have an ill feeling.

With other dictators often call themselves General, or Brig Gen etc,
I wonder why this fello settles with a mere Colonel rank?

The guy always cracked me up! He'd always have these outfits on that looked like his mother made them for him. I bet his wardrobe should bring a big price on EBAY, but then who'd want them now.

Obamas not alone in any of this.
Back in 1986, I had a T shirt.
On it was an F-111, with
"Good morning Mr Gaddifi, this is your early morning call"
This was just after you yanks gave gaddafi a slap up side the head for fostering international terrorism and getting caught doing it.
As maxwell smart used to say "missed him by that much"......

Probably the most useful contribution Clinton ever made to the middle east.

Suz, dont feel to put out by the passing of another dictator, theres another just around the corner to take his place, its the arab way.

I wonder if Iran is taking the hint yet?

Because he was a Colonel when he took power?

The Greek "Regime of Colonels" did the same thing. Can't be self promoting of yourself anymore then you have to. And once you've established power and you could, what is the point?

Plus it gives the impression that your not "on top", so people will follow you more.

Never mind his rank but ....

A few years we will look back and realize the NATO "assistance" was the wrong thing from the beginning. Hell, the NTC council already killed off one of their "leaders" in July, said that they captured Gaddaffi's second son Saif (who would have replaced his father) which was a complete lie back in August and now Gaddaffi was executed after capture.

The ME and North Africa in general have never became what the West wants them to, there is too much cultural differences and histories that conflict. These revolutions will be nothing different then the power changes that they replaced and that saw Gaddaffi into power, Free Officers Movement that gave Nasser power (and eventually Mubarak's), Saddam's or the Iranian Revolution.

I believe you're right Dimi in a few years they will be back to the same conflicts anyway. I don't know why we bother tryin to democratize them actually it's been futile for ever, what's the use?

Very sage words 'Mitri.

The Middle East has been racked by fighting and feuding for thousands of years...what makes anyone think they can stop it in a couple of decades is beyond my comprehension. It simply ain't gonna happen.

I saw part of a video on the TV news this morning that showed Gaddafi alive, but bleeding from some sort of a head wound, he was wiping the blood away from his eyes and looking at his hand as if to say, I'm bleeding. I actually felt sorry for him at that point...he just looked like a tired, very scared, old man. He didn't look like he really knew what was happening, he certainly didn't look like Saddam Hussein when he was caught...defiant to the bitter end.

So true Pete...and who knows who has been sitting in the wings waiting for this day, and what he is likely to be like. Sometimes I think its "better the devil you know than the devil you don't".

This head looks rather fine in the video of him being alive.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVIkck02qao

Then the beating while he was alive.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Wt5cBNl_Qs

Then the death. You can clearly see where they shot him as they decided to clean him up a bit before this video.

Thanks 'Mitri....the few seconds out of the second video where he wipes the blood from his face is what I saw on TV out here.

He was executed, and while I am not saying he wouldn't have been after a "trial", fact of the matter is, NATO gave the country to a bunch of thugs.

Not only did they shell any city that was under Gaddaffi's control indiscriminately, they have beaten and tortured any blacks (many of whom have been in Libya for generations), and now Gaddaffi's death.

NATO mandate was to "protect civilians" and yet they ended up helping the people who were doing just the opposite.

Dimitri, all very goods points and makes anyone who is not a total idiot wonder what is really going on.

If my recall is correct, and that may be a problem, the US either put most of those guys including Gaddafi in power or substantially supported them when they came to power. So why now is the US and the US dominated NATO not only turning its back on them but supporting the radicals that are coming to power.

Is the US wrong today, wrong yesterday, or just too corrupt to know what is really going on or to care, or more importantly corrupt enough to set disasters in motion.

Is there a more sinister purpose like the destruction of all free countries. Vince's point about the middle east and many other countries killing each other and everyone else for over 4000 years is very important. One might think it is a government conspiracy to destroy all our freedoms and make us slaves to the governments and start hating and killing others. Folks are so easy to manipulate, it is sad.

But I am old and probably out of touch.

Actually,

I just think France and England wanted to get back at Gaddaffi for kicking out their interests in the country when he nationalized everything.

Remember those 2 countries were sounding the horn for war not the US initially.
