Battle dressings.... Laughing Good one bud. Actually when I was doing SAR I ahd a ton of those and well yeh, they look like 'em.

I think I found what I need- RCBS makes it...think it's called a headspace and bullet seating depth tool. I only neck size so....wonder if I can get the freebore tool only. Goota do more googlin fer thingys. But I'm sure the freebore is longer than I can get to before the boat tail is up in the neck of the case so.....might be fun to have to experiment with.

Is this what your referring to ???
It's called a RCBS precision mic.
I have a few if you have any questions in regards to them.

Yepper. I usually smoke a bullet, run it in and see if it hits the lands but..I think I'm going to run out of shank before I hit the lands.

If memory hasn't alluded me, you are allowed to have one caliber in seating depth. .30 caliber. Bullet seated to a depth of .30" into the case.

I think you are correct sir, I've read that too. But the back-cut on these boat tails is huge so- I run them in a lil farther to get more grip. Not sure if that makes sense or not.

I have a shooting buddy that shoots them lonnngg boat tails and found he had to seat them to deep which ate up his powder space. He went and bought one of them hand Bullet Cannelure Tool from buffalo arms to seat them at his rifles optimum oal using that bullet. I also think corbins makes one too.

I hear ya. These are not that long, normal 168gr SMK, same bullet as the Fed GMM. @ 2.810 (same as the Federal COL) there's full neck/shank contact and nothing intruding on the power space
