I’m seriously thinking about dumping the system and starting over!!!
The computer is about 2 years old now and I’m thinking it might help clean up some stuff that I might not be aware of. I’ve had a few viruses and a Trojan that I don’t think was cleaned up completely.

A fresh reformat of the computer can always help as your starting over.

I just don't know if I have the time right now !!! I've kept most everything backed-up on a external hard drive !!! That should help.

An update to the updates saga!!!
Service Pack 2 (SP2) has installed it self as an update and left IE unable to access the net again. It includes IE 8, I uninstalled the SP.
Well I think I may have solved some of my troubles. After doing some surfing on the Microsoft pages I learned that 3rd party virus, spy ware, and firewall applications can be problematic for installation of IE8.
I focused on getting the IE8 update to work. I turned off the protections while installing the updates, doing that made IE work intermittently. For some dumb reason I decided to open up the task manager and watch the processes as I opened and closed IE. Turns out that a element of a firewall that I wasn’t even running would sometimes come on, when it did IE would not open.
I uninstalled the firewall and everything seems to be working the way it should.
After all that (way more than I’ve described) I reinstalled SP2 and all is still working as should, for now anyways !!!
The SP has fixed 2 apps that crashed on me while having these problems the last few weeks. So that a good thing also.
I’m beginning to think I need to find a Hunting Nut type of crowd/site that deals with puters !!!

I stay on top of the updates on a regular basis, as near as I can tell SP2 was just released in the automatic updates within the last week.
