I have been using #11 Nobel caps and 90 grains ffg for hunting loads. This year I had a missfire, cap poped no big bang. :-(

I am thinking about switching over to 209 primers with the ffg load.

Are there any problems with using 209s and black powder?

Welcome to the HuntingNut Bob/mn. I use the Remington Kleenbore Muzzleloading Primers. There not quite as hot as your standard 209 primers. Some of ther Hotter primers are leaving a " burn ring" at the base of the barrel making it hard to seat your bullets I haven't had this issue with these primers. I love the 209 ignition I have never had a missfire Very Happy . I use 777 I don't think there is any reason the 209 can't be used for ffg. Maybe another member can give ya a better answer. Again welcome to the site.
Joe

Hey Joe,
I'm new to Muzzleloading. {Vint has been a big help}
My muzzleloader uses a #11 magnum percussion cap.
I was going to get the 209 kit to put into my Knight LK II, but was advised by someone to stick with the #11's

What is your opinion on this???

Eric

Its no problem. As Joe said, make sure you use the weaker 209's or you can get other problems. Remington makes some ML primers based on their .410 shotgun primers, they work great.

Thanks Dallan, I'll switch in the spring.
The kit only cost around sixty dollars, and I think that it will be worth it.
I also have one heck of a hard time even putting the caps on in cold weather.

Eric
