the 22mag may not have the speed but with a little wind it will stay on target at a 100 yards

I love my 17HMR. I've used 22Mags but never felt the performance was worth the cost... After seeing stuff explode easily at 100+ yards with my .17HMR, I became a huge fan. My 6 year old love to shoot it as well and its really fun to watch him learn to shoot a scoped rifle.
22Mags will always have their place and their fans... there is room for both

I've never tried one of those .17HMR's, maybe I'll pick one up and check it out. Certainly agree with 1895, every weapon has it's purpose.

I use a 30gr CCI TNT hollow point with my 22MAG it performs as good as the 17HMR

I have a .22 Mag Savage and its a fine gun- 1/2" groups at 75 yards. I also have a .17 HMR in a Taurus revolver and a .17H2 Savage Rifle.
Both the .17's are superlative shooters, but I can't legally use them to hunt with as Florida SPECIFIES .22 caliber!
The .17H2 would make a fine squirrel gun when the law is changed- until then it's just gonna have to relegated to slaying various fruits and vegetables... dammit.

Ahhh, FB41 let me give you a Florida varmit that the 17 is just made for. Find a farmer with fish ponds and gurantee you will find the varmits, turtles.
I have a specific turtle gun, my #1 in 218 Bee. I have been known to spend a whole day cleaning out a single pond. Tough work but....
