ElyBoy: good decision. Ruger makes one helluva revolver. The old Vaqueros were among the strongest of the single actions whereas the new Vaquero is designed to stay within SAAMI limits and is slightly downscaled.

Either are excellent choices.

Well ladies and gentleman, I went and did it.
Went to my local Gun Shop--The Wolf's Den and asked Gary to look at his Ruger Cowboy guns.
I held the Vaquero, and told him that it just doesn't fit and feel like the cowboy pistol that Gander has.
The pistol at Gander is actually a Cattlemen's Millennium.
Gary said that for the price of $179.00, to go and jump on the Uberti.
I guess that he has one and loves how it handles.
I trust him, so, I went to Gander, it still was there, and now it sits in my reloading room. Very Happy Very Happy
I will shoot it tomorrow.
The Pistol has not been shot, and is in new condition.
I really looked it over.
I bought two boxes of Winchester Cowboy bullets, and will have to build up my brass collection like that for reloading.

Eric Very Happy

Good for you ElyBoy.
Here in Canada that is a restricted firearm, but it just so happens that I have a license to buy and possess restricted firearms and one of these days a 44 mag will follow me home I'm sure.

I just shot it this afternoon.
It is one sweet pistol.
What surprised me the most was it's accuracy using factory loads.
I started at 50' thinking that I should see of I could put the shots into the paper.
Everything was dead on. The misses were just a tad to the left, which for me, means that I pulled a little, shooting off hand.
I then went to 25yds, and the Cattleman put everything right in the bull.
Not bad for fixed sights.
I know that there is cowboy shoots around here, so if I have time, I might try to embarrass myself and give it a try.

Eric
