Nice looking scopes, but way out of my price range. The things they don't tell you is that if there is any fog, haze or mist, it is like looking at a wall. All the light is reflected right back at you. The same holds true for brush. The leaves appear like mirrors and you can not see thru them. I have a relative cheap ( $250 ) night vision set up, maybe it is better with the high dollar models.

Gidday kbis. I've used Gen IV and believe me there is a major difference.

All I can say is persevere mate. One night one of these little buggers will stick its head up ....... BOOM....splat. Dead beaver. Very Happy

I have seen what the Gen III can do. I can't even imagine what the Gen IV can produce. With the Gen three you could see the Beaver/rats with starlight or ambient from your house. We did some testing out in the middle of nowhere and the ambient light from an area five miles away "Bloomed" the Gen III goggles even with the auto gain feature. Good luck.

You could always try your hand at trapping. Smile

www.snareone.com (Beaver snares and lures).
In the search box type in: beaver.

More info:
The snare shop

The "A" #1 rule to remember when trapping beaver is set the trap THEN attach it... do NOT nail or chain it down THEN set the trap. A good friend of mine almost died once because he chained one to a log and then set the trap under the water and it went off on his hand... it was double spring and he couldnt get out of it with his 1 free hand. He was up to his shoulder in cold water stuck. Luckily he had a pistol with him and actually shot the chain off under water if you can believe it.

He was using one of those big #330 conibears and it nearly broke his arm.

wow Dallan, Shocked

Need to be a trapper to hunt beaver here unless your a farmer/landloaner and they are causing problems but thats good to know Shocked

As for the handgun, I belive it, I never actually understoud what stoped a handgun with a self enclosed cartrage that burns the gunpowder with the bullet and case making a seal to prevent water from entering the barrel while its being shot out. Confused

Traps would be nice, but I have 3 not to smart dogs that would probably get caught in it.

I may? have gotten one tonight.

We got 3 inches of rain this morning and I wanted to see how the damn was doing. I walk down there with my tennis shoes on(I just got off work) , real dumb, by the time I get to the lake water is oozing between my toes. I checkout the spillways and there is a little bit of stuff in one spillway, could be run off. I am halfway across the damn when I hit the flood light and there is a little head swiming around. I know the first round missed, he still there. The second round and no more head. I then see ripples in the water heading for the far end of my lake (these thing travel in pairs). On a dead run ( which is rough at my age) I charge to the far end of the lake. The lake extends into my neighbors place with a barbwire fence seperating it. I am getting close to the fence line when I think that I should see where I am before I eat some barbwire, I hit the flood light and see two large eyes staring at me I am now 4 foot from a large horse. I seriously stained my shorts. The ripples continued into my neighbors place. I will have to wait and see if a body floates up in my lake, he/she was in the middle of the lake.

I am sure that my neighbors are real happy with me being out there at 1 in the morning shooting beavers.

Another though crossed my mind as I am out there stumbling around in the dark. I have lost track of the numbers of snakes that I have killed around my lake. How active are snakes at night????? Is there a chance that I could step on a cottonmouth???????

Enough for tonight, I am home with dry socks and clean shorts and a glass of wine. What could be better.

PS It is interesting that I have had 8 responses since my last post and no notification, I was begining to think you guys didn't like me anymore Smile .

Thats what my neighbor was going to do. His beavers build homes in the middle of his lake, my beavers dig into the banks. His lake is much larger, I guess thats why they build out in the lake.

Kbis,

If all else fails what about a underwater electric fence like they use to control the movement of carp ?? Smile

Typical beaver traps are set under the water so unless your dogs are swimming around in the water, they shouldnt be caught.
