The following video shows a guy shooting himself in the leg. Contains swearing.

Guy shoots himself at range

Is this also an example that the euro coin falls faster than the paper dollar? How long does it take for him to realize he shot himself? But he isn't a fast speaker neither and how much time did a dinosauris need to realize you were cutting his tail?

And who am I to judge? But I think that when I'm still standing after such an accident, my first act would be to get the magazine out and to open the pistol, before I put it down on the ground...
I now also begin to understand the different angles on holstertypes Smile

Good one Geland. I think he pretty much scared the gene pool dry tho. Kinda scares me away from buying one of those targets with the guy pointing a gun at me too. At least he aims low.

This is one of those guys that I see at the range all the time, expert in all things, showin' the boys how it's done. I'm still trying to figure out why he was so close to the target Confused

Same thing, but the story is different once it's explained. He has been very lucky!

Thanks for the update post Aloysius, Kudos to him for explaining what happened. But one thing he didn't address like cbsweeney said, why was he so close to the target?

Theres an old military/police rule:
Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire. Period

It appears to me that in his haste to draw and fire he pushed his finger inside the trigger guard as he was drawing......pure simple stupidity!

The sequence is Draw then fire. Taking into account threats and surroundings!

As for being so close we do a sequence during our qualifications shoots starting up front like that. The idea is to tactically withdraw, whilst putting 2 - 3 rounds into the badguy. Its based on a surprise encounter situation.

That would have put some lead in his pencil.

We've practiced scenarios like Radar mentioned, for the same reason. Starting with the off hand touching the target and retreating as you draw and fire.

I found the second video interesting because I have a similar holster and kinda wondered about pressing hard with the trigger finger to release the retention while drawing the gun. I haven't played much with that holster but maybe its time to start practicing, with a snap cap in place!

I practiced to quick draw with my booger hooker pressing the side of the slide or just above the trigger hole.
In the event of a slip, you would have missed the trigger.

I dont know about that holster, but IMHO, good holsters would have THUMB release instead of index finger release.

Now I never practiced with me touching the target then draw, but, I believe if you do, you would at least start SLOW and safe
rather than hurried and unsafe, as was proven in this case.
