I have some barrels that I am going to use for bear baiting this spring and would like some suggestions on where and how to cut opennings etc on these barrels. They are 45 Gal (210) litre. They have been cleaned and painted black so far. Any Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Whatever you do, do NOT cut them with a torch! If they ever contained any petroleum product they are likely to explode.

Is the smell of the paint going to scare them off? Anyway I'm only observant not a user but I've seen them used with just the top cut but here's a really great video on making a bait barrel and these guys discuss it at length too.RightHere Look around on YouTube some more because there's lots of other videos on bear bating on there.

Outstanding Suz, I wouldn't have thought of Youtube. And They were old petrol drums but were steam cleaned after they were left in cold storage by accident at a Co-op Station and the contents froze stretching both ends.
So I was going to cut them open with a non-sparking cut off saw blade that they use in the air force. Thanks for the help.
