i wont hesitate to kill any dogs running deer if the owner is there or not. i have before and i will again.

we dont have a big wild dog problem.

the problem is a large coorperation which will put you in jail if your fixing your fense and happen to be standing on there side of the fense while your doing it. doesnt matter if there breaking the law allowing dogs running deer on them they have enough money they "own" the local law in situations like this.

my local sherrif told me i must identify the person doing it before they can do anything but not to cross my fense for any reason or I WILL BE PUT IN JAIL. so i called conservation and this morning i heard the dogs and then a truck and then WW3 in semiauto fire and poof silence of the dogs and another truck a quarter mile away speed off thru the fields which i assume was the dogs owner.

hopefully that will sove the issue.

MDOC is a great conservation dept and are very helpful making sure missouri has plentifull game.

I was raised on a Missouri cattle farm. Our neighbors and my dad did not allow fox hounds or coon hounds to run so when we heard them we knew it was someone running deer.

My own brother-in-law had two sets of fox hounds. One set was used to hunt fox and win trophy's. The other set had only one animal they would hunt. Deer.

If we heard them we would shoot them. We were retaliated against for that, but didn't give in. Hatfields and McCoys type situation boys, and what spacedone heard was hunting dogs, not feral. You can bank on that.

Mad I now live in a state that allows the use of dogs in hunting deer. I don't like it but I have to accept it! Unfortunately most people that see the local "hunters" identify them with all hunters. Too many of these individuals provide a false impression to the public of what the average hunter really is. I have seen these people standing on the roof of their trucks sucking down something in a brown paper bag, rifle slung over their shoulder. Not a good public impression. Mad

Crying or Very sad Sad to say but I have even shot one of my own dogs for running a deer. In a way I was fortunate as the Game Warden actually viewed the event. He approached me after I had dispatched the animal and expressed his sympathy. At that time in Minnesota I believe that is was close to a $500 ticket if they observed and identified your dog in chasing a deer. Crying or Very sad

Shooting In states that do not allow the use of dogs for deer hunting and you observe dogs running/chasing deer on your property I would not even hesitate to control the situation. On public land you may set yourself up if the owner observes you. In the case of feral dogs/yotes it would be pieces and parts. Pistol Shooting I spent the night in the local hoosgow with my neighbor once for ridding the local dump of a band of 12 feral dogs in Kodiak. But that is another story. Mad Shooting Mad

In some states it is illegal to shoot dogs, such as Mississippi. Check and make sure you are not doing something illegal before you do it.

Here in Louisiana, it is legal to run deer with dogs, as it is in many states.

Bushmaster has the right idea. The dogs are doing what they are trained to do. If running dogs is legal in your state then, the dog hunters are hunters just the same as we are. They have their rights too and if it is our personal choice not to run dogs then, it is just that. Personal preference.

Now, on the other hand, wild dogs that are dumped out, well, I would shoot them in a heart beat. I don't run dogs and I choose not too but, I would never shoot a collared hunting dog because it just happens to get on my property chasing a deer. You need to take that up with the individual dog owner, if possible.

Welcome to this site Progers... Very Happy

Now that I have welcomed you to this site...Let me introduce you to me so you might better understand me when you pull my stuff out of context...If you are hunting on my land and you are using dogs to run deer and the state says that it is legal your dogs are dead...Because it means that you didn't come to my door and ask permission to hunt on my property or you would have known that you were not supposed to have dogs on my land...I really don't care it the state allows it as my property is another country...

Oh.. By The Way...Did I welcome you to this site??? Cheers Popcorn

Hey, thanks for tha welcome. You got me at attention!

It's all about respect. If they don't respect you and your property then, you can do whatever the law of YOUR property is, in my book!

We have the same problems down here in the Bayou! Respect for the landowners is not a common practice.

Let me rephrase that-if it is illegal in your state, DON'T GET CAUGHT!

Humm,

In Ontario its only a 10$ licence to register a dog for deer hunting. Now that I said what the goverment said I know most if not practilly all hunters here dont use dogs for deer.

Too hard to train them and people dont like dogs running around. The dog might ruin the hunt and most dont take that chance.

Personally releasing a dog isnt my idea of hunting, but if lets say I leshed it and trained it to track hit deer I'd be ok with that. Its close by, wont get lost and wont cause problems Very Happy
