I'm one of the noisy stalkers! And it works for me.
I try to walk like a deer, by that I mean a deer will likely walk for 20-30 yards then stop and have a look for some feed then carry on. Walk for a bit more then have a look round before grabbing another bite to eat. Their not tip toeing through the bush and it's surprising just how much noise they make.

Personaly I think the best way to become a better stalker is to watch what you hunt. Even if it's behind a high wire you still get a very good idea of their habbits from watching them.

As for tracking wounded animals< I think the posts above have got it spot on.

One thing to remember...It's movement not the color of your hunting clothes that the deer see. It doesn't matter if you are in bright orange or camo (not sure who these guys are hiding from). Any clothes that break up your body form or lines will work. Plaids or even bright orange camo will work. Deer see in living shades of black, gray and white...If you have a deer in your area at any distance of eye sight and it doesn't move you probably won't see it. But let it move an ear or a tail and it suddenly sticks out like a sore thumb...The same goes for you...If you don't move they probably are not going to see you, but move and.......

I mess around with the deer on the ranch where I keep my horses all the time. I have snuck up on the resident 4 X 4 to within 20 yards on several occasions...Only to move a hand or my head and GONE is the buck...This is without any camo of any kind. Just my red and black square plaid makinaw...

Bushmaster,

THATS WHAT I TELL THE HUNTERS I HUNT WITH! Very Happy

They somehow thing that because it looks like your wearing a picture of forest on you the deer wont see you even if you move. BUT if I tell them I'm gonna wear my red and black plaid light jacket they go nuts on me! Sad

Last July when I went camping I managed to get a chimpmunk with my hands. I baited it alittle with some nuts but I still managed to grab it and it didnt resist. Laughing I dont think it was the smartest one in the bunch though it was missign its tail Shocked

One of these days I'm gonna wear a Gillie suit out hunting in Archery season (no Orange requirements then here) and I'm gonna count the minutes till the first one asks me where can they get one. Very Happy

Like I said Dimitri...I'm not sure who these guys in camo are hiding from in the first place...My opinion of course,I can see why there are so many tree ambushers in camo getting shot going to and from their blinds and tree recliners...Most big game can only see in black and white and shades in between...

Happy hunting everyone. Very Happy

Heh Bushmaster,

As soon as I can I'm gonna try finding more sensable hunters in real life Laughing

Whats funny about hunters I know in full camoflauge is they can spot each other well when they are walking and when I ask them if you can see them walking dont you think Deer will ?? And they never respond Very Happy

I do know camo works and i guess all that scent lock stuff as well.....But i can't see spending cash on all that high tech clothing when i've harvested better than 50% of all my game in blue jeans with a splash of after shave for a shower Cool (in my younger years).... And that ain't no joke Cheers

But in a high pressure area, that would probably change drastically!

Yup 10ring...one camo plus one city slicker = Dead or wounded camo...I know a bunch of sound and movement hunters (I don't hunt with them. Once was enough). That is one of the reasons that I leave the road hunting to the road hunters and go into the wild...Nobody but me and an occasional hunter like me....I have hunted all my life in blue jeans and a red or orange plaid hunting coat and have had no problem finding deer to shoot. The two most important things to remember as a still (stalker) hunter is next to no movement and pay attention to the wind or breeze. Stay down wind...Believe it or not...You can smell a rutting buck on a damp day if you are down wind of him...Rank!!! If you are worried about your scent...Shower with Ivory soap...

It's funny because i've done this all my life.....except for ground pop up blinds now because i don't get around as well as i used to Cool . Anywho, i was in a "real" deer camp where the only shower you got is if you had after shave (my buddy used to call it the vagrant shower.....and NOT OLD SPICE ROFL ) or if it rained.....or the typical wash cloth shower Wink . Baking soda and soap would get the stink off the 'ol hands from fresh caught salmon and trout....and ya know, those were some of the best days of hunting and i'm glad i was able to expierence the actual "roughin it" for soo many years Cool .

There is nothing wrong with Old Spice :-D. I like the stuff. So does my girl and deer so there must be something good in it Wink

Too many weird new colons and deorderants around nowadays. Some of the ones I saw last time I went to get some smelt almost like they were for women they smelled fruity Shocked

Now if you were wearing OLD OLD SPICE then your really old. Cool
