Well with my old peepers i can not use battle sites any more but the old winchester with course sight- and the buckhorn still goes well . Then still able to work with a peep site,
The dot sites are small , and then too your not trying to line up three things at once , just place the dot in the target .
You can put one of these dot type sites over the front part of the reciver and not need to bend the bolt , or worry about the case flying straight up and hitting your scope . I see some mounted on the rear site dovetail , as in the scout set up , so then it is a reflex site and you use it with both eyes open .
Turnbull offers a mount that fits the rear dovetail from the rear site for levers , and I would think you could adapt the Fast fire 2 QUICKLY FOR THE K31 TOO!!
That gets you away from mounting a scope off to one side ,

Try the Lyman pinhole device. It really shaprned up them old battle sights. It sticks on your glasses with a suction cup and has an adjustable aperture. I can still bong gongs out to 300y with it.

I really like dot sights but I've bought a couple of them and both have a problem with paralax. Also something I don't like is they're not that wonderful for target shooting because the dot size obliterates the bull's eye. Do they make them with cross hairs? I guess they'd have to be illuminated cross hairs. I think they're really fun on a semi-auto at close range.

I looked for the pinhole device and found the Lyman 'shooters optic aid' which is a suction cup mounted thing that makes you look through a small hole> is that it? $19.95 I think I could try out doing that with a piece of black paper taped to my glasses. See if it works.

If you guys could post some links where to find these things. I was also lookin for that Turnbull scope mount, couldn't find it.

Suz, Check out the Bushnell. It has multiple reticles and red or green. For target shooting, you can adjust the brightness of the green way down so it doesn't obscure the target at all, but is still visible. For real bright conditions (sun on snow) the brighter settings in red really stand out.

Reticles are crosshairs, large dot, small dot, and small dot surrounded by a circle. Five brightness settings each in red or green.

I have two of these. One is on my Ruger Single Six and one on my Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 mag The sights are sturdy too. No problem after 1000 + rounds of .44 Mag hunting loads.

My daughter fell in love with these sights. I put one on her Walther P22 also. Too bad you're a bazillion miles from here or you could stop over and shoot all 3 of these. ;-(

Anyway, if you can find someone around Eugene with one of these, you won't want to give it back after trying it. Batteries last darn near forever, too.

44marty!! I have a stupi question bout the dots. I just looked over some Bushnell dot sights on reddotsightsusa and they have different sizes of dots. One says 3 MOA and one says 6 MOA. I know what MOA means but don't know how you relate that to a dot. So I'm thinkin (and I rarely do) the 6 MOA is going to be huge on a 100yd target and the 3 MOA is going to be smaller. Also the eye relief, I assumed the eye relief on them would be pretty much unlimited but only one of them says unlimited eye relief, the trophy model has 3in eye relief. Only one has magnification at 6x, and I would think that would a nice feature, Mine are only 1x and at 100yds it might get you there but my eyes won't. Oh I'm talkin myself out of it...

Anyway I'll have to look for one with the cross hairs, might change my mind. I really like the ones I have but for the paralax problem. I use one on my SKS and it's a blast to shoot, but I'm just not that interested in precision with that gun.

Suz, if you want my opinion: don't go for bi-colors because you'll loose halve of the adjusting capacity. The light will blind you when it's dark + good adjustment helps you to reduce the size of the dot and the smallest dot gives you the best accuracy.
You don't see the red dot during day light nor on a red surface.
Green dot is in my opinion better but I began to love the fancy blue cross (haven't seen this color in dots yet).
Confusing? Just try it! (you even can try it with a laserbeam: you only see red in darkness and the green laser you can see day and night)

I have the bushnel Throphy 1x28 with the 4 Red /green reticles in 3 to 10 MOA dots / then crosshairs , to then 65 MOA circle Item # 73-0135.

Started shooting this on my Marlin lever at first then moved it over to the 338 F tikka bolt on weaver base's, and now it is on the winchester BB in 307 W

I had the cheaper model with only a red dot on my S&W Model 29revolver in 44 Mag, and shot plates from 25 through 100 yards with this gun .

Eye relief is unlimited as it works as well three inchs from my hat holder, as well with it stuck out with arms locked on the revolver . View is88@ 100 yds
Paid about 115.00 Canadain about three years ago.

What I was referring to was the Burris Fast fire 2 site, which can be found on the burris scope site . They are like the Bushnel Holo site in appearance the cost is about three times morethan the trophy . Then it is small and can be mounted up front as well as a rear site dovetail as turnbull Restoation does for a host of levers . Then Burris has many site base's to choose from two . So I think you could mount this for and aft on just one weaver ring.Just have a smith mount a weaver base where you need it .

Then two I see dots mounted with one ring mount in some of the gun mags . It would take some time to again find the mag. where I saw it .

This was my experience with a two-color dot sight and took it back. I love my dot sights because I can shoot 2-eyes open. Its great for in close but still need some magnification to shoot well at distance. I recently got a 2.5x Leupold scout scope which I really like as I can still shoot with both eyes open.

That's it, Lyman...Merrit makes one too. Champion Shooters supply has them, others as well. Yes, you can hang a piece of black whatever in front of your lens with a hole the diamter your eye likes and it will do the same thing.

A friend has a red/green, multi reticle "red dot" sight on a .22. I don't recall the brand but it was inexpensive. We got the rifle zeroed at 50 yards with the dot and then switched to the cross-hair. I wasn't even on the paper with it then. Have any of the other folks who use these had that happen?

Well all I can say is three deer , three years ....... Just got to remember to turn it on . Have a friend set up one on his SKS and has the front site set to match his dot , so he has the best of both words then .
I use the dot in heavy bush , and under 100 yards . No long distance at chucks , but with in that 100 you sure can down a deer . they are 1X.
You will like them or dislike them . It is an adjustment to use the site . Then too in years past no one liked scopes or had a mount so they could look under them .
I learned to use them on the revolver .Saw to much of the shake with a scope . To each there own.
Some people too are fine with a side mounted scope . Tried one once on an older win 94 and thought that was odd to use . So the dot site is just an idea to over come that situation

Hi Suz - Mine are Bushnell Trophy 1X28. The reticles are 3 MOA Dot, 10 MOA Dot, Crosshairs, and 65MOA Circle with 3MOA Dot

These are a great value at $84.95 from Natchez and include rings.

The MOA Dots are what you would guess. 3 MOA Dot covers 3" at 100 yards. I use the crosshairs for paper targets at that distance. The 3 MOA Dot surrounded by the circle is very nice for deer at that range. Also, a 3" stick-on dot at 125 yards is easy to keep centered on, but I just like crosshairs anyway.

These do have unlimited eye relief. The 10 MOA Dot is for use with shotguns and, yes, is large. One of my daughters likes this reticle using targets that have a circle slightly bigger than the dot, at the 30 yard distance she is shooting. She centers the sight by keeping a slight white margin and the circle around the dot. Pretty much all of her shots are in the x-ring unless you can make her laugh.

I would have sent this back for replacement. I do not see that happening with my sights - all give the same point of impact regardless of switching reticles.
