I really appreciate all your help with this project.

This is a new concept for me using glass on a rifle, learning ranging, BDC etc. Got two more boxes of the Federal 180gr SP the gun seemed to like. If I can find the BC for the Speer Hot-Cor SP I can make a drop chart with the software here too, there's info on the box too so.... That'll also make 3 boxes of matchable brass so I can work up some loads, if I can ever find mag LRP's etc, God it's like pulling teeth finding stuff here.

Gonna slow it down some work on the basics. Sight pic, hold, breathing, trigger control on paper @ 100y. I've noticed the least little thing at these ranges = a BIG miss. Accuracy really depends on the shooter controlling deviation.

But them steel cut-outs of critters way out there is just sooo tempting. Maybe the rangemaster will let me toss some sheets over them or something so I'm not so distracted. Glad they don't have silhouettes of quail.....that's all I need.

Speer list the BC of their 180gr Hot-Cor as 0.304

If your just gonna be shooting steel you may want to try some Remington Core-loks or Federal with the Sierra Game Kings.......They're probably cheaper and easier to find !!!

The Sierra GameKing bullet is boat-tail bullet and pretty aerodynamic with a BC just above 0.5. It will have 50% or half the wind deflection of the Speer bullets you are shooting now, 50% more retained velocity at 700 yards, and be flatter shooting.

I wouldn't expect your rifle to shoot at the same velocity that the manufacture advertizes. Most velocities are from a 24-inch test barrel and some magnums are from 26-inch barrels. The closest my rifle has shot to an advertised velocity is 100 fps less. I had one that was 300 fps less. I have a 23" barrel. I didn't have this knowledge until I used a chronograph.

Hey guys- sorry it's takin' so long. Weather will not cooperate. Super gusty winds of late on every range session I've planed so far. Last outing I ahd some 150gr FBSP and they shot nice and flat and spot on the first mil dot @ 300y. I owned all the steels @ 200y and 300y and it was a good feeling to be able to pick a target and pang it at will, even the little swingers. Actually made a nice cloverleaf at 100y sighting in for that factory load.
But after 300y the erratic tail-breeze rolling up off the berms bucked the bullet pretty bad and made doping impossible shooting accross the grain. When it calmed the second mil dot plus or minus was good for 400y hits.

So far I've got 100rds through it and it is a real shooter. The recoil is very doable, thanks to a well designed brake, the fluted barrel cools fast after 2-3 shots, feeds well from the mag, trigger's getting really good, still clean and crisp and nothing has broken so far. I am VERY happy with how it turned out and how it shoots so far and for how little I have invested in it.

But, it's gonna be a while till my next session in June for a handload report, pics of paper and such. I'm anxious to report back on these loads with the 200gr Sierra MKHPBT and see how I do with my first 3 high-power recpie's.
