Last week, I was at the range trying to get some sort of grouping with my PT 1911 that I purchased from Gander Mountain last year.
For the life of me, I just couldn't get consistently in the ten ring at 25 yards with it. I figure that it needed a new bushing. I got a great deal on it at Gander for only $265.00.
A fellow shooter that is a friend of mine said that he would trade me his Ruger Security Six for my Taurus because he isn't a good shot anyway, and wanted a .45.
Today, I finally saw his Ruger, and swapped after seeing that it was in perfect condition, and my first six shots with it tore out the ten ring at 25yards.
It is blued with a 6" barrel, and just now on the net, I found that it was made in 1975.
I have the dies and load for the .38 Special, but tomorrow I will pick up some .357 dies for it.
About the only pistol calibre that I don't have is a .357 and from what I have been reading, the older Security Sixes are some of the finest .357s ever made.
I sure can't argue about that claim after shooting this fine old gun today.
I think that this is another gun that I would never sell that I own.

All you need is a spacer ring for the dies you have !!! It’s a lot cheaper !!!

Wish I could find a deal like that !!! Then again I don’t have any Taurus laying around to trade up with. Laughing

I just returned home with .357 dies, that cost me $33.00.
Gary at the gun shop and I figure that the problem with the PT 1911 maybe that the guy shot it very little, but when he did shoot, he used super hot loads which might have loosened up the bushing a tad.

I've had a Security Six, 4" stainless with Hogue grip, for about 30 years and it's still my "go to" when things go bump in the night.

I got a kick out of the Taurus commercial I saw a couple days ago on TV.

They claimed they made their handguns for Special Forces. Shame with the criteria they made guns "for" the special forces just about any firearms company in the US would count.

After all they only put a pistol in for trials. Many companies (if not all) commercial companies have done the same thing. Except most of them have not been accepted and bought. Laughing

I have been shooting the Security Six quite a bit, and really, really, like it.

I came across another deal at Gander a few weeks ago, and sold a shotgun that I never use to get it.

They had, in the used gun section, a Beretta 8040 Cougar, that looked like it had never been fired.
I don't think that it was ever taken out of the box.
I got it for $345.00.
Not all of the guys at the range like it.
Being of short barrel, a guy has to be a good shot, but for me, it shoots just great.
What I really like about the .40, is that along with being very accurate for a protection gun, it will shoot as fast as I can pull the trigger, with no failure to feeds.
I think that it's rotating barrel helps a lot.
The gun does have quite a bark though.
If you missed your target in a real fight, he would be deaf anyway. Very Happy Very Happy
