I've been to the Cabelas' in Wheeling, WV. They put in a new exit off I-70 for the store and Dick and his wife paid for the necessary bridge (viaduct) out of their own pocket. It carries their name, but that state is mostly Fed Gov't employees. Jobs are scarce. They run an Eastern distribution center out of it, also. I bought a young friend a surface lure for his bass fishing escapades and he nailed an 8# 12 oz bass the first time he wet the lure in a farm pond he frequents. Shocked

This thread kinda reminds me of the new Bass Pro they opend up here in Toronto (well Vaughan but its the same thing :P).

Anyways alot of the hunters and fishermen I know didnt like there prices because they were too high compared to other stores such as LeBaron. I dont know why though. Sure you might spend 1-2$ more on a 20$ item at Bass Pro but atleast when you go to there they have it instock and on the shelves. When you go to LeBaron half the stuff you see in there catalog needs to be shipped in from Montreal! Mad

Do you pay a premium to go shopping at a store like Bass Pro and Cabelas, I think so. After all it does cost them quite abit for there displays of animals and the like. Is it always worth it ?? Maybe.

Bass Pro stands out for me atleast sure there are the busy times with alot of shoppers but atleast I got to know some of the great employes (the one that is a supervisor/manager for the gun departemt for one) there that are really helpful with my many questions! And they dont treat you like you dont know anything like some of the smaller shops I have been in. Very Happy

PS Anyone has seen Cabela's "Outfitter" wool clothing ?? I am thinking about getting that for the moose hunting I am going to be doing in Northern Ontario but I was wondering if its worth the extra price to get it shipped here with customs and all. It seems good but then agian I only ever saw it in pictures. Help

Hey Dallan, if you ever do get to go hunting Kudu in Africa - don't forget to bring the hide back. You may have enough to have a pair of boots made for Sniper's size 15's - those Kudu are pretty big suckers! Take a lot of gun when you go!

Del: VERY funny! Just think how much money I save on skis. Very Happy

Took my granddaughter to the Thanksgiving sale Friday. She's 14, and her parents, who are the penultimate yuppie libs, were saying "Ohhh, all those dead animals will gross her out! " Not so. She says she enjoyed the displays, particularly the African exhibit, and the aquarium. Her comment? "It needs sharks!" Very Happy I love that kid! She is good company, and a real help in bird dogging one of the items I wanted, while I stood in the lines. Oh, yes, there were lines.

Shakespeare was right! "What! Will the line stretch to the crack of Doom?"

The day was enjoyable, I got a pair of the heavy duty Gore-tex winter gloves for $11, with coupon, and best of all, a Leupold Golden Ring Spotting scope, which the office is paying for as a retirement gift... 19 days, if I were keeping track. Did I mention....Life is good?
