I took my new-used Sig P220 9mm to the range today for some serious shooting, and testing.
The temps. were in the 30's so I could really see how this pistol shot.

I used my reloads-- 124g FMJ bullets loaded with 5.2gr of Power Pistol.

I'm not kidding, shooting at 25yds off-hand, I shot up the X ring about as good as any of my 1911 .45ACPs.

I have never seen a 9mm shoot this tight of pattern, and this gun has fixed sight to boot.

This is the first Sig that I have ever shot, and I just wonder if all Sigs shoot this good.

Pleasant surprise for only $250.00

Now I have to find an extra magazine for it, which could be a pain.

Eric

Yes Eric they are that good. What you have witnessed is typical of the Sig reputation !!!

When I first decided to get into pistols some years ago, I talked with a 1911 gunsmith.
I told him I was looking for the best out of the box 45 ACP for carry/target/fun.
His reply was go buy a Sig 220 and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
He wasn’t wrong. I am happy !!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
Other than messing with some lead wadcutter reloads, my 220 has never failed to cycle properly !!! ( I finally got them to work after adjusting OAL. )
I am yet to find anyone who has had a 226 or 228 fail to feed either.

I have said it over and over, This gun is more accurate than most .45’s I’ve seen, including my Kimber Gold Match. Shocked

Sig is making some single action models these days. The 220 match and super match 45’s and the 226 X-five in 9MM.
The X-five is pushing 3 grand retail the 220 match $1,500
They are pricy but ............... I need one Nuts

It sure surprised the heck out of me Chamber.

I fired several magazines through it, and couldn't believe the gun's accuracy.
After several boxes of reloads, I became a believer.
I think that I may end up with a Sig .45ACP before the year is out. Very Happy Very Happy

I went on the Sig Forum to try to get some information, but for the most part, trying to converse with that gang is like trying to talk trout fishing with a hard core fly fishermen.
Quit the attitude.
I finally gave up, and I will learn myself, our by you guys about Sigs.

Eric

Do your homework before you buy !!! There are different variants of the P220.

The old models were made in West Germany with new style mag release and like the one on your 9MM.
The new models made in the States can be had with a rail.
Also had all stainless version. To heavy for carry and illegal for IDPA competition. Great to shoot !!!

The biggest difference between new and old is the way the slide was made.
I don’t feel this is a issue, nor have I ever heard of any trouble, but look at the pictures I’ve posted.
The old style has a insert I’m told was added for strength.

One last word, stay away from the newer 2000 series guns.
They were made to compete with the economy market.
Not that they’re no good, just not typical Sig !!!

Thanks Chamber.

Now I know what to look out for.

After looking at your pictures, I checked mine out and it has the insert like your picture #2 has.

Not that I need one, but I've been looking for an extra magazine for it, and I'm having no luck in finding one.

I have never had a mag. go bad on me, but it would be nice to get an extra.

I will look for one at some gun shows this year.

Thanks again,

Eric
