I may hate myself later but I picked up yet another new toy last weekend. I liked my little Ruger 77 Compact in .260 Rem so much that I've been wanting one with a longer barrel. The Ruger is a 16.5" and the new Remington I got has a 24". No pics yet but here's the manufacturer's link:

www.remington.com/prod...dition.asp

When I get it scoped and shoot it some I'll report back.

Great stuff Pumps..
You will definitely happy with the CR version..
I have one in .223 very light weight and although not a "one holer" gives nice hunting accuracy.
The only drawback are due to the short barrel, they are a tad LOUDER than the standard barrel length stuff..
But what the heck.. thats the fun part in this sport.. Making a loud BOOM Very Happy

Finally got a scope mounted on the 700 so here are a few pics:

Note: I did "photoshop" the serial number out of this one.

The scope is a Burris Signature Select, 3-to-12X w/ Ballistic Plex. I sure hope it shoots as good as it looks!

Most .260's do shoot well. Have fun with that!

What kind of groups do you get at 100 yards with your Ruger M77 Compact in .260 Rem. ?

Frontier, I've gotten just over 1" at 100 yds with the Compact. Unfortunately that load wouldn't feed well. It used the Hornady 160 gr RN. Other loads were under 1.5".

Thanks for the reply, I have been looking at that cartridge for a while but couldn't decide between the .260 Rem. or the .243 Win. I like "scout" type rifles for the hunting I do and this Ruger compact sounds like just the thing I have been looking for. The only problem I would have here in Hawaii is getting ammunition. I would have to order it by the case because it isn't a cartridge that they stock at our local sporting goods store. Thanks again for the response.

Frontier, I picked the .260 over the .243 because of the bullet selection available. Weights from 90 to 160 grain in varmint and big game configurations. I intend to use it for deer but it has the capability to handle varmint bullets too. Look under "Articles" on this site and you can find something I wrote up about the Ruger. www.huntingnut.com/ind...cle&sid=59

Wow! I can't believe it has taken me this long to get this rifle to the range but I shot it for the first time today! To get it somewhat zeroed I grabbed some loads I'd made up to try in the Ruger, 140 grain Hornady Interlocks over H4831SC . After zeroing I fired for a group and got about 1" at 100 yards. I plan to work up some loads using the 129 and 140 grain Hornady SSTs and I'll let you know how they do.

Yep, having to work for a living is a bitch! Having to work for a company that is totally incapable of planning or scheduling is REALLY a bitch!! We never know when we will work or be off for the weekend.

This rifle has pleased me so far. I’m starting on the loads using the Hornady SSTs in 129 and 140 grain. I’ve got some 160 grain RNs here too that I’ll eventually try. Of course, as you can see from the dates in this thread so far, we may ALL be retired by then.
