On the way to work the other morning, a doe jumped into the side of my company Blazer. She ran off and left $2,000.00 in damage. I wasn't going very fast and really wanted to avoid her. Later, I saw two old gentlemen loading a dead doe into their truck about 100 yards from the accident scene. How many of you good folks have gotten deer with a vehicle? All the best...

Just a dog. And he did enough damage to convince me that a deer is not on the top of my target list.

I've gotten 3 deer (2 does & 1 buck) over the years. Also one 650 lb cow moose on I-95. I had my 3/4 ton pick-up with a plow frame on it so damage to the vehicle was minor. It's an experience I won't forget, though.

I hit once once doing 55mph ... I got the old chevy slowed down to that from the 75 I was originally going. Man what a mess... I kinked a fender pretty good and bent the bumper but generally I was saved from mass damage by the massive push-bumper I had on it.

The grand total for vehicles I have been riding in or driving is as follows

Mule Deer= 42 Total, 38 dead 4 bruised

White Tail Deer= 3 Total, all dead

Elk= 2 Total, 1 Dead, 1 bruised

Moose= 3 all bruised

Personal best, 14 Mule Deer in 150 yards in a 76 Ford 1 ton.

The 1 dead elk was actually pretty funny when it was all said and done.

She ran into the side of the ambulance I was driving in Yellowstone National Park. She was laying in the road, soI called the Rangers at West Thumb to move her before we had another vehicle wreck.

When the rangers came to the hospital later they said it took them a while to figure out why all the passing motorists were staring at them.

Until they remembered they had driven the ambulance to the scene and were dragging the elk towards the side of the road where the ambulance sat. Lights flashing and back doors standing open.

I guess some tourists thought they REALLY cared about the wildlife.

First was a doe in the Catskill Mountains in the mid 60's while visiting a Navy buddy's family. We cleaned it on a pitchers mound at a little league field in Middleburg, NY. Ok, not nice, but the buzzards did their job quickly.
Second, was another doe with my pickup. Not killed but I knocked her down and she skidded off of the road.
Third, was in the wifes car. $2,000+ repair bill and the deer was not fit to take home and salvage the meat.
Fourth, the wife had a doe run into the left rear fender 3 days ago. Doe survived with bruised fealings.

Shocked Shocked wtf Who handles your auto Insurance. Comprehensive is only for acts of Nature, Mother Nature and you may not see eye to eye. I sure glad I'm not your Insurance Agent/Adjuster!!!! Cat demolished the front plastic ground effect on my old car $600 total damage. And with my Bronco (diesel) at 60mph, i took off the rear quarter of a doe and estimated damage with that was the cost of propane it took for the hilo (forklift) to pull it out. Very Happy

The company's insurance agreed to pay $1,888.00 and mailed the check yesterday. The real hassle is renting a car for week while the Blazer is in the body shop. Fortunately, the company is paying for everything. All the best...

Very Happy Well I don't know how I've avoided a direct hit with deer all these years, but, I'm not driving in a National Park either! LOL I have plenty of near misses. One was very memorable. I was driving a friends VW bus many years ago. If you recall that vehicle then you know that you are sitting right up on the windshield of the bus and you can darn near see the front bumper if you look downward. We were coming down a slight hill doing maybe 60 mph, when a large buck came screaming down the clay embankment on our right and was in front of the bus in split second. He was on a full run and I remember hitting the brakes as hard as I could and seeing this deer completely fill my view. I recall bracing for a hit and looking down at his hind quarters and thinking there's no way to avoid a collision. Little did I know he had Nitros. LOL Somehow he managed to hit a burst of speed and tucked his rump and legs at precisely the right instant and cleared the front end. I had to find quiet spot in the woods and took some paper towels with me.
I had, on another occasion, a doe literally leap just over my tire carrier at 65 mph. I don't know where she came from but she was inches from coming through the side rear window of that SUV. Another trip to the woods! I've learned to take toilet paper now. You'll find it under the front seat if you ever ride with me!

Never hit a deer, don't want to either....buggers are bigger enough to cause a lot of grief.

Some years ago when I was in the Army I was driving a Landrover through the firing range at Singleton in New South Wales. That place is crawling with roos. Anyway, this dumb doe decided that she was fast enough to cross the road in front of me....buzzz, wrong! I was doing about 80 kph (50mph) and clipped her with the brush guard (roo bar) on the front left. There was a God Almighty bang that frightened eleven sorts of faeces out of me then she disappeared in a red mist. She wasn't all that big...maybe 4' high and about 50kg max, but certainly big enough to bend the brush guard (2" tubing) ding up the guard and bend the lower control arm on the steering. Found her carcass about 10 metres off the side of the road and boy was it a mess...tore both rear legs off and smashed just about everything else.

Roos are a real bastard to hit. They are usually low enough to go through the grill and radiator of the vehicle which usually amounts to big $'s. The silly buggers see you coming, jump out in front of you then prop and watch you coming.....almost impossible to avoid then sometimes. It is a real pain to drive a main highway out west in the morning after the semis have been through at night. Its like driving through a non ending chicane dodging the roo carcasses.

Not too much problem with deer. Moose, well them tings are plan nuts. I was clipping along hyway 38 in eastern ON can. when outta the corner of my eye I see this brown mobile hump thundering to towards the road. Being I was driving my persoial p/u, I chose to stomp on the binders. The wife, who was snoozing beside me haulared bout my driving abbilities, and all I could repely was, MOOOOOSE!! I got the truck whoaed down just enough to let the beast pass. I'm not sure what stunk more. Me, or that darn moose.
