If a person can only afford a low end scope then Simmons, Tasco, Center-Point, BSA, are some scopes that will hold up with the bigger magnum rifles. They might not be water proof and the glass is not as good as some of the upper end scopes, but they do work. Not everyone can afford a $600 to $1500 dollar scope. Myself I like Leupold, I buy used or an older model,( vari X I, or vari X II. at a better price. Good Luck.

Nikon is another brand you may want to take a look at.
Pretty good scopes for the money. Smile

Mr .280 Shooter, I have very cheap and weak Tasco 3-9x40 on the T/C Contender-carbine .223 Rem. If I close the barrel strongly, this miserable scope will to brake like......straw. I have had it already 10-11 years. Because I have been tender, it is ok. (Elvis Presley: Lowe me tender).

Nikon or Leupold, must take to "arena". Mayby here "Stuff for sale".

K.W., you might want to look at the Millet line. I am having pretty good luck with a couple of the Silver series that I am testing at the moment. They won't break the bank but appear to be well made and stout. You can also catch some of the Burris scopes on special occasionally that are quite strong. Stay in the 40 to 44mm objective bell range and you will usually have decent clarity but not cause the scope to fail as a result of being mounted so high that torque destroys it.

Nothing wrong with a Simmons if you don't expect it to compare optically to a Leupold or higher end scopes. I have them on my 30-06, 270, and 22-250 and they work just fine with no failures. No problem seeing deer in bright or low light through them.

well like i said,I bought 2 of the new redesigned master series pro hunters.
Now why would a scope just break up in side from a mild 223,out of a T/C,
And No I dont slam the action closed.I only closed it,I sent that back,I have that now on my Tikka3 lite in 223 ,That after a trip to the factory ,It holds zero,The same kind is on my 280.That has to go back to the factory.
I do have some older simmon, they work well.some i had to send back,But My Questions always has been,Why a brand new scope right from the factory.has to be sent right back, for repairs?
I have scopes <that i have takin off other rifles.that shoots and hold zero,
I also have a tasco,.that i bought over 25 years ago. thats been on,My RWS air rifle.then 22's two cross bows.Muzzleloader, now back on my Rem 22,no problem. Now thats a scope made for air rifles.the recoil on air rifles aren't like a high power rifle. They spring forward, then back, that beats scopes up real fast,
I have my eyes on a busnell 3200..I'll save my hard earned pennys for that one,Or a nikon,

yes there are cheap scopes out thier,in price and quility,So its a buyer be ware

Go with Nikon Pro Staff K.W.
I have one on my .300WinMag, and my 45/70 Guide Gun.

$135.00 trouble free shooting.
They work great on the range or in the woods.
Great optics with the Nikon Lifetime Warrantee.

I think that this is the scope that coyotehunter was talking about.

We've had good luck with Swifts. Got them on a couple of 300 WSM's and a 30-06 for the last couple of years. No problem with them at all. Very Happy

Ok, guys and gals, I have to chime in on this one.
Nikon......I am sure the make top quality scopes and seem to have a great reputation. But it only takes one!!
I do not have the luxury of spending big bucks for my equipment. I have used Burris, Bushnell, Simmons, TC, and Swift scopes. I bought a used rifle with a Bushnell. The lens were all scratched up. I sent it back 2 weeks later I had a new, in the box scope.
I slipped, fell, and knocked a Simmons scope last fall ($28 at Wally World). It would no longer adjust.......I trashed.
Jumped up to a Nikon Pro Hunter. Couldn't seem to get same groups with it. Would not hold zero. Sent it back. Asked that they just give me my money back...1st experience with the company and I just wanted to go back to companies I have had luck with. NO dice. It took 3 weeks to get it back. I spent $80 bucks woth of reloads, new mounting rings, plus shipping to prove to myself they sent me back my scope with no repair!!
I tried to explain that is not good for business. Word of mouth is better than any printed advertizing.
I'm still waiting for my money back.
The local gun store I go to does not keep Nikon on the shelf. They will order them but not stock them. They have had other customers with same issues.

Well I added up the cost of what it cost me to figure out its the scope and not my rifle or hand loads, hand loads worked great untill i put this scope on the rifle,300 bullets 300 primmers, powder for the over 300 cases, thats over a pound and half,A trip to the gun smith,Just to find out its the scope,
Yea i can hit a paper plate at 100 yards almost everytime, almost.
And i know my winchester can and did shoot 1/4 in groups in the past,So I want it to do it again,I know it wont happen with a simmons,Im not spending anymore of my hard earned retirement money,As i dont have a lot to spend any more,
