My 2Cents! I had a heart attack 3 years ago in the bush. If it were not for my MOTOROLA walkie talkies, my bones would still be out there. I never hunt with out a partner. Big game or small.

Hey guys, I hunt alone most of the time. I'll go any where from a day to a full week, but only because I only book 1 week of holidays for hunting. In a few more years I'll have 5 weeks total, then I'll book 2. If I waited for some one to go with, I'd never go. I wont sit at home and say I should have gone! It would be nice to have some one to play cards with in the evenigs. The Wiskey Jacks don't say to much, but they sure like to get fed.

ill tell the truth

i just hate to hunt and hunting alone is very disheartning to me. my gramps raised me and as a logger taught me from the age of 5 how to shoot and to track. from the time i could hold my old little short remington single shot 22 ive been shooting and hunting with gramps. at 8 he bought me a old enfield from sears out of a barrel which i still have 40 years later. i retired it last year when gramps died and bought me a no 4 mkI* longbranch.

the last three years ive had to hunt alone and its not as much fun nor as productive hunting brush by yourself. yes its nice to sit in the woods alone and hunt but its so much better to be able to stand up walk 40 acres and sit down with someone you like and complain and drink coffee in the cold. its deer season in missouri and ive been in the woods every day for the last 2 weeks deer hunting and you know even though ive killed 2 fine deer and the freezer is over full i honestly didnt have near as much fun.

you cant tell lies about the huge buck you ran your friends direction nor bragg on what a tremendous spike buck your friend just killed while you have a 4 point at YOUR stand at the bottom of the largest hill in 20 miles.

i really hate hunting.

i really really hate hunting alone.

i WILL continue to hunt even if it is alone for several reasons.

first of course is the great wild game as food which cant be beat and second every person in the world should know how to feed themselves. third a bad day hunting is still a pretty great day. forth by continuing to hunt your skills can and need to be given down to younger generations. and last on a windy cold wet morning before the suns come up completely i can see gramps in the fog his old mauser his brother brought back from WW2 just before he died across gramps lap {i still have the mauser as well} and can see part of ME and my values instilled since i was a knee high child and realize yes i may HATE to hunt but i cant wait til next hunting season so i can suffer the wet and the cold and remember why im in the woods.

pardon me while i cry awhile.

Anyone who thinks hunting is only about killing stuff has not hunted much, IMHO.
Companionship is great, a safety factor, and a deterrent. There is a small percentage of socio and psychopaths, and just plain hateful people who are in the outdoors, and the presence of multiple persons may tend to limit antisocial behavior.

If you don't see/kill anything? You will have tired feet, legs, and back, probably have been rained or snowed on, tromped miles, and loved every (or almost every) cold, wet, tired minute of it!

My most fun hunt wasn't when I got an elk, but when I had my 10 year old son with me. We spent about an hour and a half climbing this mountain, and he saw some deer on the next slope over. They were too far away for my binocs to help me see if they had antlers, which should have told me somethng, but he suggested that we go straight down the mountain.

I took one look, and told him to hold tight to my coattail, put the rifle on safety, and down we went. Took us 5 minutes or less to cover what we had used 90 minutes to climb. The deer turned out to be big, fat does. And me without an antlerless tag!

He still tallks about that trip down the mountain.

and he will for the next 60 years.

kids raised hunting are different than kids raised without hunting.

kids who hunt are politer and more friendly and even more responsible.

they have seen what violence can do and understand the places violence need to be used. ie selfdefense or food.

my relatives and friends with kids dont hunt and you can tell they have no idea what a movie gun shooting people really means and thats just a shame.

Last time I went about 10 days ago we had 6 in the hunting party. It was bow hunting elk in steep tough country. Some in the party brought their pack horses. We all split up and went our own way when actually hunting, but it was nice to be within radio range of the others if you needed to haul out an elk or got into trouble.

I hunt alone or with my son........just no body else I like being around that much that can handle it. We hunt open prairie deer and antelope on private land and elk in the mountains as far away from others as we can.

I don't even like to see other hunters....let alone hunt with them.

I do a fair number of hunts by myself, that whole alone with nature thing. I also hunt with a few buddies, usually moose hunts. Since I can hunt basically within minuets on my front door there are a lot of day hunts, but we do have multiple day trips as well. This year were off chasing Moose from Oct 4th til the 16th about 1 1/2 hours south west of town. Two campers and 6 camp dogs...lol..... both my buddy and I have three dogs each.

I pretty much hunt alone. Sometimes my son will come with me, but he can't sit still and it drives me nuts. It's still nice to have the company though.

I agree, you don't want to be in the woods without your pants up. I've heard some terrible stories about pantless hunters and bears. Makes your blood chill. Very Happy
